January 25, 2003, we had a light snowfall here in Augusta.  Just enough to make you want more.

Christmas having recently passed and I still didn't get what I wanted--snow--we took off for the mountains.

These were taken at a rest area somewhere in Tennessee.

Along the way I had taken several other pictures

This was the fountain in front of our hotel decked out in ice.   We stayed in Pigeon Forge, and Winterfest was in full swing.  Surprisingly, there were not that many people there so we really got to enjoy the scenery without a throng of people.

After checking in we drove around to see some of the sites.   On the right is the Courthouse in Sevierville.

After driving around for a while we headed into Gatlinburg.

I'm not one for heights.  I've always been afraid of being in high places.  And while I didn't know where Mike was going to take me, it was evident that the tram was part of the plan!

I figured as long as I was up there I might as well do something to take my mind off being so high in the air.  These are some of the sites I saw on the way up.  And. . .I still didn't know where he was taking me.

These are some of the mountainside homes I saw on the way up.

While these two look very homey to me, the one below would have made me more than a little nervous if I had to stay in it.

Okay, the tram ride is over and I'm back on terra firma.  At least for the moment!  Wasn't too bad.  We didn't crash into the other tram and we didn't fall out of the sky. . .a big plus in my book!

I never realized that the tram went to and from a ski lodge.  This is the first time I've been up here.  And you can see on the right where I'm being herded to next!  The skylift!

It was just about this time that I realized I had been telling Mike that I wanted to stop somewhere and get a pair of boots.  Canvas tennis shoes just don't cut it in the snow, and my feet were getting pretty cold.

And here you thought I was joking about tennis shoes!!!  Not!  By this time, my feet were so cold I could hardly feel them for the pain!  But, notice, I did remember gloves, unlike Mike.  It was a hoot when we got to the top of the mountain.  Mike's hands were so cold, and it just so happened that the little fellow that snapped this photo of us just happened to sell--you guessed it--gloves, and coffee and hot chocolate!  I'll bet those are the most expensive gloves Mike will ever buy!

The view from the top of the mountain is really spectacular.  These pictures really don't do it justice!

We could feel the temperature dropping minute by minute at this time of day.

Just when I thought I could not get any colder, I realized we still had a long ride down the mountain.

I remembered that in the ski lodge there was a outfitters shop--they just HAD to have a pair of boots!

They did--but they were out of my size!  I ended up buying a pair of children's boots--but who cares. . .they were warm, and they fit!  (Thank goodness they didn't have cartoon characters on them!)  Yes, there was a picture of me buying the boots, and NO I will not publish it here.  (Without a doubt the most unflattering photo ever taken of me!)

The next morning we headed back into Gatlinburg for a little more sight seeing taking out time on our way back home.

This was taken from one of the overlooks outside of Gatlinburg.

The woods were beautiful blanketed in snow.

In some places you could see where some of it was melting off and forming small waterfalls, and of course, there were all kind of icicles everywhere!

I had taken a video of this stream.  In the audio you could hear the  water running and the crack of tree branches as the wind blew.

There was one shot that I missed because of the fellow down in the right hand corner.  There was a deer making his way down to the waters edge, and I think this man scared him.

I can hardly wait to be able to come back again and do and see the things that I missed on this trip!
