1. CONGRATULATIONS:

GEORGIA LOPEZ Y ALEJANDRO RODRIGUEZ (ganadores de salsa)

2. INTERNATIONAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE: You can pick up the applications at 310 student center. Those of you who are planning to take a position in LASA or any other leadership roll should come. this conference is targeted to international student and/or to students with international background.

3. LATIN FILM FESTIVAL: there are still some movies playing. They are in spanish with english subtitles. If you'd like you may pick up a schedule of movies at the office (310 Student Center)

4. DIVERSITY: BIG ISSUES. LASA Needs to come up with a FOCUS group for on the topics of Diversity. By Diversity, we understand the interaction of different cultures and races with common objectives: spread culture, end prejudice, end hate crime, educate & teach values. Thanks to Vanessa, Joanna and Angel who came to the Diversity meeting. We'll keep you informed of when the next meeting will be.

5. CHARITY: Who has any ideas? LASA wants to do some charity work. So far, we have an idea brought up by Aaron to help out La Mision Catolica de Chamblee. Any suggestions? Aaron will bring us more info at the meeting. If you have any ideas, please let us know!Please bring ANY Charity ideas you might have. ALL IDEAS COUNT. We want to make a good contribution this year to the charity of the association's choice. Just as ideas for charitable events, keep in mind the following themes:

- Thanksgiving
- Christmas / Hannukah

6. MENTORING PROGRAM: Suki has contacted all with information on the Mentoring Program status. If you wish to participate, just reply to her email. Another mentoring program is that led by the Latin American Association. For information, call them at 404-638-1800. You just need to be at least 18 years old, bilingual (preferably) and be willing to give up an hour of your time per week.

8. BAILE DEL DESCUBRIMIENTO: La Sociedad Puertorriqueña de Georgia invites you to their BAILE DEL DESCUBRIMIENTO to be celebrated on Saturday, Noviembre 18 @ 9PM. Freight Depot 1 Martin Luther King Dr. (behind The World of Coca-Cola) Downtown Atlanta.

1. DANCE CONTEST: To all of those people who WANT to participate in the dance contest, but CAN'T seem to find a partner, this is your last chance to meet a GREAT DANCE PARTNER. The dance contest will be held on Wednesday, November 8th. We need volunteers to help us out decorate on that day. The contest has been moved to Tuesday November 7th, 2000 and so has the raffle.

NEW! Competition guidelines:

  • All contestants dance to merengue or salsa, or both. Two different blocks of music will be played in order for every couple to have a choice to dance one type of music.
  • When the block of music is over, judges will request that the BEST TWO couples go back to the dance floor.
  • These last 4 couples (2 for merengue, 2 for salsa) will have to Show-Off what they know in order to convince the judges which is the winner. There will be 1 winner for Salsa, and 1 for merengue.

We need volunteers to pass flyers around campus for people to attend and watch or dance.

2.RAFFLE: The tickets AND the money will be due at the competition. PLEASE BRING THEM TO US ASAP.

3. INTERNATIONAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE: To all of those interested in taking the roles of President, Vice-President, Treasurer, & Secretary of LASA next year, we recommend you attend this conference. It is very good for networking, information, and of course fun. The conference will be held at the same complex CONCLAVE was held at. Dates:

5. JOURNEY 2 HATE FREE MILLENIUM: Flyers.

6. THE FUTURE OF DIVERSITY AT GSU: Town Hall meetings. Concerned Student meetings. SGA bill. Thursday Meeting at 2:30 PM (ISAC Meeting)

7. CHARITY: Looking for a charity we can help out. Any charitable volunteer work and ideas will help out. Need member input and volunteerism. (e.g. Blood Drive, Fund Raiser, Visiting Children w/ Disability, etc)

1. DANCE CONTEST:The dance contest will be held on Wednesday, November 8th. We need volunteers to help us out decorate on that day. The contest has been moved to Tuesday November 7th, 2000 and so has the raffle.

By request of several members, the competition will work within these guidelines:

  • Judges will escort the "disqualified" couples out of the dance floor.
  • The last 4 couples (2 for merengue, 2 for salsa) will have to Show-Off what they know in order to convince the judges which is the winner.

2. ISAC HALLOWEEN BALL: The event will be held on Friday October 27th, 2000 at the State Ballroom, New Student Center. We will be there after 1pm starting to fix up the place. We'll need lots of help. The design comittee (headed by Emilio) is meeting on Friday 20th at the ISAC Office, 12:15pm. Those who want to help with decorations or design, please come.

3. YOUTH AGAINST HATE CRIME: ISAC has given money to promote this program. LASA put $25. This money will help conduct a series of events, informational as well as recreational about hate crime issues.

4. SPRINT PCS OFFERINGS: Sprint PCS is offering $20 cash per each phone sold by the association. This money will go toward our budget for future events. Anybody interested in buying a Sprint PCS phone? Please send your referrals to any of the LASA officers so the sale will go through the association. That way, we're collecting money so our events will have more features.

5. LASA WEB PAGE: Our LASA web page has been updated, re-formatted, and put on steroids. LATIN WEEK pictures are there!!!! A "News" section has been added. If you have any interesting announcements you'd like to make, forward them to Emilio and he will post them on the web page. There also is a list of events we are currently working on right now with a short description.

1. HISPANIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND: applications e info about the scholarships are at 310 Student Center, LASA mailbox at the ISAC room. Please remember that the last day to turn in your applications is October 15.

2. MENTORING PROGRAM: unfortuantely, I haven't been able to get in touch with Suki (Program Director), but for those of you who have applied for it and would like to send her an email, her address is suki360@y... . Also, for those of you who haven't applied but would like to participate, just email her.

3. LATIN EXPLOSION DANCE CONTEST: everything's ready Only thing we need is people that want to participate in the contest. Couples who want to, should send an email to Emilio (vladdrak@h...) or Ursula (ursu159@a...) and sign up for it. If you don't, you're risking not being albe to participate. We are trying to avoid some of the things that happened during Latin Week. So please grab your partner and start practicing!!! The contest will be held on November 8th (Wednesday).

4. ISAC HALLOWEEN BALL: please, we're asking people who could help us decorate the ballroom. The event will be held on October 27th. We will be there after 1pm starting to fix up the place. We'll need a lot of help. If you want or know someone who could, please write us.

5. LATIN SORORITY/FRATERNITY: as you already know, a latin sorority and a fraternity are forming at GSU. Those of you who are interested in being a part of them can contact Hanna Bauer(hpintozzi@y...) or Fernando Barreto (coquidragon@y...).

6. RAFFLE TICKETS: we are still raffling a Sony portable CD Player. The raffle will be concluded on November 7th, at the Dance Competition. Those of you who would like to sell tickets ($1 a piece), please write Emilio (vladdrak@h...)
