This is a song that we sang on our sleepout, to raise money for Childhope, the street children's charity. Khera, the Young Leader changed the words of "Never Ever" for us.

StreetChildren Sleepout98

(To the tune of "Never Ever" by the All Saints.)

I'm so tired,
And it's so cold in this yard,
Those Guides are giggling,
The Rangers acting hard.

I need peace,
Gotta feel at ease
Need my bed!
Free from ants,
Captains rants,
And old pants, yeah.

Sometimes I feel like I just don't care,
Would they notice Wednesday if I was not there?
Complications, hesitations in my mind,
I've got to look for that necker that I can't find,
But I can go there, even if I've done something wrong,
And spend some time,
And that's why we're all singing this song.

Chorus
We're together now, I hope you can see,
Just how much all of you sisters mean to me,
People laugh at us, I say that I don't care,
How can they know when they've never even been there?
I've learnt confidence, I know how to take the flak,
I tie a reef knot with both hands behind my back,
Dedication and a lot more on the side,
I tell them that's why I love being a Guide.
We're all searching, deep within our souls,
For all the answers, they don't wanna hurt no one,
They need peace, they gotta feel at ease,
Need to be free from pain, no-one's bane
My heart aches…
Chorus

Alice The Camel

When the lights are low,
A-do-wop, a-do-wop, A-do-wop, a-do-wop.
(Rpt.)

An Austrian Went A-Yodelling

An Austrian went a-yodelling on a mountain-top high,
When he met with a yodeller a-yodelling this way,
Yo-lay-de, a-yo-lay, hoo-hoo
Yo-lay-de, , a-yo-lay, hoo-hoo
Yo-lay-de, a-yo-lay, hoo-hoo
Yo-lay-de, a-yo.

An Austrian went a-yodelling

And he ! on the window and he ! on the door
And he ! in the sugar and he ! in the tea

Oh, You'll Never Get to Heaven!

Verse
Leader: Oh you'll never get to heaven
Guides: Oh you'll never get to heaven
L: On a boy scout's knee
G: On a boy scout's knee
L: Cos a boy scout's knee
G: Cos a boy scout's knee
L: Is too knobbly!
G: Is too knobbly
Chorus, All: Oh you'll never get to heaven on a boy scout's knee
Cos a boy scout's knee is too knobbly!
I ain't a-gonna grieve my Lord no more,
I ain't a-gonna spit an' I ain't a-gonna swear
I ain't a gonna pull my sister's hair,
I ain't a gonna grieve my Lord no more!

Oh You'll never get to heaven… in a Wonderbra, 'cos a Wonderbra won't get that far,
in a bottle of gin, cos the Lord don't let no spirits in,
with a Brownie Guide, 'cos a Brownie Guide, will fizzle your mind,
in a bottle of beer, 'cos the Lord don't like none of that good cheer,
on a sofa-bed, why don't you try a settee instead
from Manchester, 'cos Manchester, is just too far,
in a biscuit tin, 'cos the Lord don't let no crummy ones in,

If you get to heaven, before I do,
Then dig a hole and pull me through,
In case I die, let's make a date,
I'll meet you at those pearly gates!

Lean On Me

Bill Withers

Sometimes in our lives,
We all have pain, we all have sorrow.
But if we are wise,
we know that there's always tomorrow.

Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on,
For it won't be long, 'til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on.

Please swallow your pride,
If I have things you need to borrow.
For no one can fill those of your needs
That you won't let show

Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on,
For it won't be long, 'til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on.

You just call on me sister when you need a hand.
We all need somebody to lean on.
I just might have a problem that you'll understand.
We all need somebody to lean on.

You just call on me sister if you need a friend.
We all need somebody to lean on.
I just might have a problem that you'll understand.
We all need somebody to lean on.

Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on,
For it won't be long, 'til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on.

(Rpt. Chorus)

Taps
Daylight Taps
Go Well and Safely

Taps

Day is done, Gone the sun,
From the sea, From the hills,
From the sky, All is well,
Safely rest, God is nigh,

Fading light dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright.
From afar drawing night
Falls the night.

Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, from the hills, from the sky;
All is well, safely rest;
God is nigh.

Then good night, peaceful night,
Till the light of the dawn shineth bright;
God is near, do not fear
Friend, good night.

Daylight Taps

Thanks and praise For our days
'Neath the sun 'Neath the stars
'Neath the sky As we go
This we know God is nigh

Go well and Safely

Go well and safely,
Go well and safely,
Go well and safely,

The Lord be ever with you.

(Stay, keep, camp, work, sleep, wake.......)

Desiderata
There Once was an Oyster

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise & haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly & clearly, and list to others, even the dull & ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud & aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain & bitter, for there will always be greater & lesser person than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble, it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery, But let this not blind you to what virtue there is, many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love, for in the face of all aridity & disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees & the stars, you have a right to be here. and whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labours and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy.

There Once Was An Oyster

There once was an oyster
Whose story I tell
Who found that some sand
Had got into his shell.

It was only a grain
But it gave him great pain
For oysters have feelings
Although they're so plain.

Now, did he berate
The harsh workings of fate
That had brought him
To such a deplorable state?
Did he curse at the government,
Cry for election,
And claim that the sea should
Have given him protection?

No - he said to himself
As he lay on a shelf
Since I cannot remove it
I shall try to improve it.
Now the years have rolled around
As the years always do
And he came to his ultimate
Destiny - stew.

And the small grain of sand
That had bothered him so
Was a beautiful pearl
All richly aglow.
Now the tale has a moral,
For isn't it grand
What an oyster can do
With a morsel of sand?

What couldn't we do
If we'd only begin
With some of the things
That get under our skin?
