| Hello and Welcome to SlingShot's DTR2 Guide to familiarize you with adding setups, tracks, skins & modified cars to your game.If you are here then I assume you will be adding things to customize your game. I guarantee I am in these folders 2-3 times a day. So lets do some simple steps that will simplify this process. Depending on what windows version you have the steps are different but lets do this. Go to start tab and find my computer. Right click on it and choose explore. Go to C:\Games\Infogrames\Dirt Track Racing 2\data. Right click on the data folder and choose create shortcut. The shortcut is now in the data folder at the bottom. Drag and drop the shortcut file onto your desk top. Close the explorer / my computer folder. find the shortcut on your desktop and click on it to open. You should now have a quick access to the folders you will be accessing often right on your desktop.
We did this because I strongly advise you to unzip all your add on items to your desk top prior to placing them in the game folder. The different versions of winzip and unzipping programs handle the files differently. Look at the example below. It contains 3 red arrows. You should be unzipping to desktop and have all files selected and be using folder names. Click on it to enlarge.
Dirt Track Racing 2 has a simple process for sharing setups. You can add setups by simply places a setup file into a folder. If your game was installed in the default location. You will need to add a folder inside the data folder and name it setups. The path should be C:\Games\Infogrames\Dirt Track Racing 2\data\setups . If the folder already exists then put your setup file inside the folder. The actual setup file should have a file extension of .str you can add folders with setup files inside the folder. Here is a picture showing the location of the setup folder. If you don't know how to create a folder or how to explore the contents of your computer, I strongly urge you to get assistance prior to adding any file to your computer! You can enlarge picture by clicking on it. If you want to add a car like Ultralate or Woo sprints you would basically do the same process of creating a folder inside your data folder except the folder will be named cars. If you want to add tracks you can create a folder named tracks in data folder too. If you wants to see custom paint jobs create a folder named skins inside data. Let me show you a picture of my folder so you can see what it should look like. Click on photo below to enlarge it. Note: If the folder exist, dont create another. The folders allowed have been mentioned.
I will post some setups for you to try. You will see I am not the fastest driver so try them if you like. I will tell you this, I probably steer as much with my pedals as I do my arms. Most of these sets were not made by me personally and have simply been altered to my lack of driving skills:). I will credit EVR 5rf for his sets that made me better and some ole racing buds evr bandit & bumpnrun for hands on help! I just started racing in Oct 2006 after a couple year layoff. I have made some great new friends and visited with some of the ole boys who are still at it.
