Bassant Deolall
at the Georgetown Hospital on Monday night.
Bassant Deolall, 22, of 40 First Street, Alexander Village, is lucky to
be alive after he was ambushed, stabbed in the chest, chopped, beaten and
robbed by a gang of seven Monday night.
Now a patient in the Male
Surgical Ward at the Georgetown Public Hospital, Deolall says he was taken
advantage of and hopes that the police arrest the perpetrators, according
to him, all male.
On Monday night as blood trickled down his face, he
recalled his ordeal and opined that the incident may have boiled over from
an encounter on Sunday night.
15
pennyweight gold chain
Deolall alleges that he foiled an
apparent attempt by some of the gang members to rob him of his 15
pennyweight gold chain.
“I stand up to two of them and they ain’t take
nothing then,” he said. However, as reported, worse was yet to come.

He
is now hospitalised nursing injuries he suffered on Monday night as a
result of being stabbed, chopped, beaten and robbed by “about seven of
dem.”
He said that last Sunday as he exited an internet café he noticed
the group of men approaching and immediately realised that something was
amiss.
Deolall said that he stopped to allow the men to pass, and all
but one of the men went ahead, while the one that remained inched closer.
He suspects that at that time he was wearing a 15 pennyweight gold chain
and a few silver accessories which may have caught the men’s
attention.
He recalled instructing the youth who remained behind to go
ahead since he did not want a problem but noted that his request angered
the man and an argument ensued. “I wasn’t afraid of he, and since he de
getting brazen I slap he and he tell me he gun bore hole in me,” Deolall
said.
The men made good their threat Monday night by cornering Deolall
not far from his home and inflicting a severe beating on him that saw him
being hospitalised with a laceration to the face and another to his left
forearm. He sustained other injuries including a stab wound in the region
of his upper chest.
Recounting the events leading to his injury,
Deolall said that he was standing on the bridge leading to his uncle’s
home when he saw the group of men approaching. Recognising one of the set
from the night before, he alerted his uncle and retreated into the
yard.
Cutlasses and ice-picks
He said, “The men draw cutlasses and
ice-picks and advance to me,
but me uncle tell dem to rest deyself and they went away.”
Not long
after the men left, Deolall decided to head back home a few doors away. He
was cornered by the men who waylaid him a short distance away.
He said
they attacked him, chopping and stabbing simultaneously and he said he
would have been dead if he did not dodge several chops fired. “The one
fire a chop at me neck and I block with me hand or me neck woulda been
clean out’” the shaken youth said. By blocking the chop aimed at his neck
his sustained a deep gash on his left arm. He also received a stab
wound.
“He pelt another stab at me chest and I jump aside and the thing
what he stab me with connect to me rib bone and I thought I dead, but
thank God I jump or it was in me heart.”
While lying on the ground he
was dealt several kicks before the men took away the gold chain he was
wearing.
The Alexander Village youth said he knows that one of his
attackers has already reported the matter to the police. A Georgetown
Public Hospital report confirmed that the 22-year-old male, was stabbed to
his left-side chest and also had lacerations on his hand and beneath his
right eye and was subsequently admitted.
