Biography
The long story of Wretch Mk V started on Hallowe'en 2000, Gareth and Myles were drummer and guitarist respectively in Southend Based hardcore/metal crew Roptrick but had decided to leave and start afresh playing music that was closer to their hearts ie big nasty old skool metal. So on that night local metal heroes Size were playing at the Palace Ballroom Southend, so they went down to watch and discuss their plans. Funnilly enough also at that gig were Martin Antonelli (guitar) and Kev Eagle (bass). Both were approached and agreed to be in this new project. Problem being that Myles and Gareth were still in Ropetrick and had a gig scheduled with Size at the Devonshire Arms in Camden. After a whole month of practising with Ropetrick and tying up the loose ends within the boys were finally ready for their first practice with the band then known simply as Wretch. The band carried on practising with this line up for a few months but Kev Eagle lost his job and his interest so understandably dropped out. The band carried on practising with just the 3 of them still writing and practising regularly. Around this time Aron Topping from Size bought a drum kit and after chatting to him down the pub one night we decided that he would play drums and Gareth would move to Vocals. This line-up of the band (MK 2) carried on practising and soon recruited another vocalist Chainsaw Pete. Again as is always the way Pete lost interest and so we were back to square one ish again. Then Aron brought in Dan McAnich formerly of Wormhouse. Dan had seen us practise a few times and had liked what he had heard and the new drection we were moving in and so joinied on vocals. With him Aron also brought in Julia on Bass guitar. So now we had a full 6 piece line-up and started writing furiously in a southern sludge type of vibe. With this line-up also came the advantage of having Dave Woods (also of Size) coming along and giving advice on riffs/key changes but perhaps even more useful his mini disc recorder so now we could write stuff get a half decent copy of it so we knew what we were doing from week to week. From these sessions we have a 2 song rough demo. Unfortunately again this line-up fell apart and Myles and Gareth were back to square one. Also during this time Gareth started a new job and a whole load of oher stuff that I'm not gona go into here so now we go to the present. As of 28-09-03 Wretch Mk V are now in full on writing mode and are getting their shit together to make a real go of this band that's been around since 2000. Although we are yet to practise as a whole band we've recruited Kev Guy on Bass Guitar and Mark on Guitar. Myles and Gareth have practised a few times to start writing and basically get a feel for playing again and now we're ready to get this band going. So look out for Wretch Mk V very very soon.
