Media Effects

In The Media:

The people of Fiji thought the ideal body was round, plump, and soft. After they had TV on the island, the shows such as Baywatch and Beverly Hills 90210 changed their ideas. After only 38 months of having TV, teenage girls who lived in Fiji showed serious signs of eating disorders.

Another study showed that females who watch TV three or more nights a week are 50% more likely to feel “too fat” than non viewers. And with the average U.S. child watching 21 or more hours of TV weekly, plus being exposed to magazines and movies, that’s a pretty scary statistic.
