Titanium Chef: Backcountry Cookoff!
2002 in Big South Fork National Recreation Area, 2003 and 2004 in Cumberland Gap National Historical Park, Tennessee

Cookoff 2001 - The first Titanium Chef was held in Fiery Gizzard, Grundy State Forest, which is near the South Cumberland Recreation Area. I did not attend this one. This backcountry cookoff was started by a good group of people who participate in the forum at thebackpacker.

Cookoff 2002 - My first backcountry cookoff that I attended was Titanium Chef 2 (TC2) at Big South Fork on Dec. 7th, 2002 where I got 8th place! (Is this bragging - I hope not). For TC2, I whipped up a spinach fettucine alfredo topped with salmon - all with non-perishable items. Sauces are easy on those little stoves.

Cookoff 2003 - TC3 was held in Cumberland Gap, Tennessee in October of 2003. The town showed great hospitality along with Zoe's Mountain Sports. I received Spiciest Dish award for Harvest Curry (chicken curry on a biscuit with homemade wheat carrot noodles). The noodles didn't turn out that good, but it was a fun experiment.

Cookoff 2004 - TC4 was held in Cumberland Gap again on the weekend of October 16, 2004. I helped facilitate the 2004 event in conjunction with the good people at Cumberland Gap's Chamber of Commerce. We worked together to make the event part of the Cumberland Gap's Heritage Trails Festival along with other hiking, biking, and running contests. If you haven't been to the town of Cumberland Gap and the historical park, I highly recommend it.
