Personal Biography

“Be careful whose toes you step on today, they may be connected to the ass you have to kiss tomorrow.”

My name is Jamie Desrochers. I am 27 years old, and live with my husband in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  We have an American Bulldog named Libby.  She is our baby for now, no kids as of yet, but we treat the dog like one for now.

Professionally, I teach in a high school learning support classroom and coach girls’ volleyball. This is my seventh year teaching but only the second year in this position. For the first five years of my teaching career, I taught in an alternative school where students were sent if their behavior problems were too much for the public school to handle.  I have to say that was a very challenging yet rewarding position. I learned a great deal about classroom management and relating to students with severe emotional problems.  My passion is teaching science.  This is one area where I believe students can explore and excel because of all of the hands-on opportunities the world of science allows.  There is an audio clip that's a whole lot of fun and it's all about water.  Click here to listen.  I've also found some very interesting video clips about barn owls that my students have enjoyed watching.  The video and audio come from Carolina World Class Support for Science and Math.  This web site is a valuable tool for any elementary or middle level science teacher.  You can follow this link:  http://www.carolina.com/

In addition to teaching, I am also a part-time graduate student studying adult education at the University of Phoenix.

In my free time, which seems to be less and less as the weeks go by, I like to cross stitch, and read.  I enjoy gardening in the spring and summer.  Most of the plants are stared from seeds in February.  My husband and I enjoy camping and hiking, and Libby loves to join us.  I have recently started knitting; I enjoy doing this in the evenings after all my chores are complete.
