Ah yes my artist statement…
It is very hard for me to write this considering I’ve never really considered myself an artist. Since I was a little girl people have been calling me an artist, but I just create things because I have to. Ideas are constantly popping into my brain and then I make them. I have always had a fascination to the strange and unusual. I like things that are not perfect, things that have to work little harder to survive then the rest of us, and yet some how they can do it with more grace then the rest. I spent my teenage years trying to fit in and be like everyone else, until I realized that people who are like everyone else are boring and more miserable then people who don’t get caught up in such nonesense. People who don’t waste their time being uncomfortable in their own skin and just enjoy life. My work revolves around these ideas; I have found my artistic niche making sideshow freaks. I’ve always wanted to visit a real freak show, but since they no longer exist I have had to make my own. I make the things I have always wanted to find, and hope that others enjoy them as much as I do. After high school I went to school for glass arts. Glass and I had a kind of love hate relationship. I loved the material but couldn’t seem to get my ideas across with using glass as a medium. I found that my skills weren’t where I would have hoped they’ve been after four years of school. It wasn’t until I found a school for special make-up effects that I really found my calling. Since I’ve been at school I’ve had the chance to work with a variety of materials that really fit my needs.
