Khal: First off I want to say congratulations on winning LA Weekly's "Best Hard Rock/Metal Band" That's outstanding!! What was your reaction when you won? And was there any celebration going on after the show?
Tairrie B: THANK YOU!! IT WAS VERY COOL TO EVEN BE NOMINATED! THE NIGHT WAS A BIT CRAZY. IT WAS FUN THOUGH. THE FACT THAT THE WEEKLY GAVE US SUCH A HUGE FEATURE AND TWO COVERS WAS REALLY NICE. IT HELPED US OUT A LOT. WE CELEBRATED AT HOME..MICK AND I. MEGHAN AND YAEL HUNG WITH A FEW FRIENDS AFTER. MICK AND I ARE VERY MUCH HOME BODIES AND LOVE TO JUST BE AWAY FROM THE SCENE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. I SPENT ENOUGH YEARS HANGING OUT AT CLUBS AND GOING TO PARTIES. IT GETS OLD AFTER A WHILE. MICK IS MY PARTY!!
Mick M: Thanks.......I didn't expect to win so it was a pleasant surprise. We partied and split because it was a long day.
Khal: What can we expect from your book that's coming out soon? I hear that it's somewhat controversial and that some are scared to promote it. Is there a title for the book yet?
Tairrie B: THERE WAS A WORKING TITLE FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS BUT I RECENTLY CAME UP WITH SOMETHING NEW. MY BOOK IS STILL A WAYS OFF. IT IS VERY OVERWHELMING TO BE HONEST. SO MUCH STUFF! SO MANY PICTURES AND STORIES AND GOD KNOWS WHAT ALL INCLUDED. I HAVE ONE ROOM (our dining room) IN OUR HOME DEDICATED TO THE BOOK WITH SUITCASES FILLED WITH ART & PICTURES. LOTS OF THE PAGES HAVE BEEN COMPLETED BUT THERE ARE SO MANY I, AM TO THINK I HAVE 4 BOOKS. WHEN IT FINALLY DOES COME OUT IT WILL BE LIKE GIVING BIRTH! THE BOOK WILL PROBABLY BE THE MOST REAL AND EYE OPENING HONEST THING I HAVE EVER CREATED AND THAT IS A LITTLE SCARY. I AM DOING IT FOR THERAPEUTIC REASONS I GUESS. YES, A FEW COMPANIES HAVE TALKED WITH ME ABOUT IT. ONE LOVED IT BUT TOLD ME I HAD TO SCALE IT DOWN SO SEVERELY IT COULD ONLY BE 2OO PAGES. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW I AM GOING TO FORMAT IT BUT IT WILL BE OVER 200 PAGES I DO KNOW THAT MUCH. I THINK THAT MY IDEA BEHIND IT IS TO REALLY FACE MY PAST AND BRING SOME CLOSURE TO MANY THINGS IN MY LIFE ONCE AND FOR ALL. THE BOOK CELEBRATES WHO I AM AS AN ARTIST AND AS A WOMAN. IT IS VERY REVEALING AND PERSONAL. IT CELEBRATES THOSE PEOPLE WHO HAVE HELPED TO SHAPE ME ALONG THE WAY AS WELL.BAD AND GOOD. I DON'T REALLY REGRET MY PAST WITH ANYTHING OR ANYONE I HAVE INCLUDED IN THE BOOK BECAUSE I HAVE LEARNED FROM EACH EXPERIENCE AND GROWN INTO WHO I AM NOW. I THINK THAT EVEN IF SOMEONE HAD NO IDEA ABOUT ME AS AN ARTIST THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO PICK UP THE BOOK AND FIND IT INTERESTING.
Khal: At the New York show with Kittie at Irving Plaza, what song did you sing with Morgan Lander and how come you didn't get together at some of the other shows?
Tairrie B: CERTAIN NIGHTS WE FELT LIKE DOING IT. CERTAIN NIGHTS WE DIDN'T EVEN GET A SOUND CHECK OR WE WERE TOLD TO CUT OUR SET SHORT SO THERE WAS NO CHANCE. MICK SANG THE SONG YOU ARE REFERRING TO "MY WAR" OUR COVER OF BLACK FLAG WITH ME ON THE RECORD. ONE DAY I WISH HE COULD DO IT LIVE WITH ME. HE HAS A KILLER VOICE!!
Khal: How are the songs for the new album coming along and how close are you guys in finding a record label that will have the balls to promote and "feel" My Ruin the way they should've been from the start?
Tairrie B: THE SONGS ARE AWESOME.THE NEXT ALBUM WILL TRULY BE OUR FINEST EFFORT YET. I AM REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THE NEXT RECORD BECAUSE WE ARE STRONG AS HELL RIGHT NOW AS A BAND. SOME OF THE NEW SONGS ARE REALLY ANOTHER LEVEL FOR ME AS A VOCALIST. MICK AND I WRITE REALLY WELL TOGETHER. WHEN WE BRING THE SONGS TO YAEL AND MEGHAN THE JUST FEEL EVERYTHING WE DO AND TURN THEM INTO THIS LITTLE MONSTER. WE ARE A GREAT TEAM. I THINK THAT THERE ALWAYS HAS TO BE THE MAIN CREATIVE FORCE OR VISION BEHIND A BAND. MICK IS THE MUSICAL VISION OF MY RUIN BUT YAEL AND MEGHAN ADD SOMETHING REALLY SPECIAL TO THE MUSIC AND HELP TO GIVE IT LIFE. I THINK MY LYRICS SET THE TONE AND GIVE THE SONGS THEIR MEANING. I BRING THE MOOD TO LIFE SO TO SPEAK BY WHAT I SPEAK. AS FAR AS LABELS GO..WELL WE ARE JUST LOOKING FOR THE RIGHT LABEL. WE HAVE TO BE CAREFUL THIS TIME AROUND WITH OURSELVES. WE HAD A FEW REALLY BAD PEOPLE BEHIND THIS BAND ON MANY SIDES AND THEY GOT US INTO SOME FUCKED UP SITUATIONS THAT HAVE TAKEN US A LOT OF TIME AND HARD WORK TO GET OURSELVES OUT OF. WE ARE NOT LOOKING FOR A MILLION DOLLARS OR THE BIGGEST LABEL IN TOWN TO SIGN US. WE JUST WANT A FAIR DEAL (if there is such a thing?) WITH SOMEONE WHO GETS IT AND GETS US. SOMEONE WHO SHARES OUR SAME CREATIVE AND MUSICAL VISION. DESPITE THE RUMORS OF ME BEING SOME KIND OF BITCH THAT NO ONE CAN DEAL WITH, I AM REALLY A VERY HARD WORKING DEDICATED PERSON WHO SIMPLY JUST WANTS TO MAKE AND PLAY MUSIC THAT I AM PROUD OF. ALL THE PRESS BULLSHIT AND REPUTATION ASIDE BELIEVE IN TREATING PEOPLE THE WAY THEY TREAT ME AND IF THAT MEANS YOU WANNA FUCK WITH ME OR MY BAND OR WHATEVER THEN PLAN ON GETTING FUCKED WITH RIGHT BACK. THIS ISN'T ROCKET SCIENCE OR SUNDAY SCHOOL..IT'S ROCK AND ROLL AND WE ARE A REAL HONEST TO GOODNESS ROCK BAND WITH EVERYTHING THAT MEANS INCLUDED. I HAVE NO TIME TO KISS ASS TO SOME LAME BAND FOR A TOUR OR CHANGE EVERYTHING I AM ABOUT SO SOME DUMB FUCKING A&R ASSHOLE CAN HAVE ME BE HIS LITTLE PUPPET. IT'S NOT GONNA HAPPEN. I LOVE THE FACT THAT I FINALLY HAVE A BAND WITH PEOPLE WHO FEEL THE SAME WAY I DO ABOUT ALL OF IT. I RESPECT THAT. I WANT TO SELL RECORDS YES, BUT NOT SELL MY SOUL IN THE PROCESS. WHEN THE RIGHT DEAL IS PRESENTED WE WILL TAKE IT..UNTIL THEN..
Mick M: I love the new songs because this band has evolved as a unit and I feel more comfortable writing songs with more guitar and a less of a rigid feel and more of a live vibe and song structure. Plus, I have turned Tairrie on to more bands with a hard rock feel.....bands that Meghan, Yael and I are into. None of us really listen to many bands that are considered "Nu Metal" so the new stuff is more of an expression of where the four of us are at musically. Tairrie's lyrics and concepts are always creative and dark so the shit is super heavy and rockin'!!!!!! We can't wait to record the new stuff!!! We are currently looking for a ballsy label that understands our vision and respects our wishes so we can get our next record out soon.
Khal: How do you prepare yourself before going on stage or before recording a song in the studio? Is there a sort of ritual that you go through?
Tairrie B: NO RITUAL EXCEPT FOR MY BROWN BOTTLE OF SHIT (as I like to refer to it) THE SAME THING I USE ON STAGE LIVE. THROAT COAT-FRESH GINGER ROOT-HONEY-VANILLA TEA-AND A SHOT OF JAEGER OR WHISKY ON THE SIDE. MY RITUALS USED TO INCLUDE THROWING UP A GREAT DEAL BUT I HAVE SINCED CALMED DOWN A BIT. I THINK IT WAS MY PURGING PROCESS..GETTING IT ALL OUT BEFORE I LET IT ALL OUT. IT'S A VERY INTENSE THING FOR ME WHEN I AM ON A MICROPHONE..STUDIO OR STAGE. IT'S VERY EMOTIONAL FOR ME AND I REALLY JUST LET WHAT EVER HAPPENS HAPPEN. NO PRE PLANNED SHIT. I GUESS THAT'S WHY I GET SO MANY STRANGE REACTIONS FROM PEOPLE AFTERWARDS. I THINK THAT THE LIVE ARENA IS BETTER FOR ME THAN THE STUDIO BECAUSE I'M LOOKING INTO PEOPLES EYES AND HOLDING HANDS AND REALLY CONNECTING..THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT FOR ME.
Mick M: I pace around like a freak before the show. It's more of an anxious thing than a nervous thing. I usually have a few beers before a gig. Once the first note hits and everything is cool......it's on! The studio is a more controlled environment so it is a little more relaxed.
Khal: I interviewed Yael about the release of the "Blasphemous Girl" and she doesn't like the way your former UK label Snapper Music went behind the bands back and releasing something like this. I feel this is just the beginning of My Ruin and it's going to be a great journey ahead. What are your thought's on this so called "greatest hits" album?
Tairrie B: WELL I HAVE MANY THOUGHTS ABOUT IT AND THEY ALL LEAD TO THE SAME PATH...I THINK IT IS DISGRACEFUL WHAT THAT LABEL DID. THEY ARE TRYING TO MILK US BECAUSE WE REFUSED TO RESIGN AND GIVE THEM ANOTHER RECORD, AFTER 3 THEY HARDLY PROMOTED.
Mick M: It's pointless and it concentrates on My Ruin's past efforts when all we are doing is looking ahead. Another underhanded business move.
Khal: As a young girl growing up, one might look at you and say "hmmm..she must have been a bully growing up". Was you ever a bully or have you been the one being bullied?
Tairrie B: I WAS THE ONE BULLIED FOR SURE. AT HOME AND AT SCHOOL. I DON'T REALLY GET MUCH INTO MY PAST CHILDHOOD TO BE HONEST BECAUSE IT IS NOT SOMETHING I LIKE TALKING ABOUT. IT'S A WHOLE BOOK IN ITSELF. LET'S JUST SAY I THINK I'M THE REASON I AM TODAY. I'M NOT AFRAID OF MANY THINGS BECAUSE I SPENT SO MUCH TIME ON BEING AFRAID OF EVERYTHING. I ALMOST WISH I STILL HAD A LITTLE OF THAT IN ME AS CRAZY AS THAT SOUNDS. SOMETIMES I FEEL AS THOUGH I'VE BEEN THROUGH IT ALL AND NOTHING CAN HURT ME BUT I KNOW THAT IS NOT TRUE. I THINK THAT THE LITTLE THINGS SOMETIMES HURT MORE THAN THE TERRIBLE BIG THINGS IN MY LIFE. I TAKE THINGS VERY PERSONALLY FOR SOME REASON. I BELIEVE THAT I TRY AND TREAT OTHER PEOPLE THE WAY I WANT TO BE TREATED BUT WHEN I AM DISRESPECTED I HAVE NO PROBLEM IN LETTING SOMEONE KNOW HOW I FEEL. I THINK BULLIES ARE THE WEAKEST KIND OF PEOPLE. THEY ARE WEAK MINDED AND I FEEL SAD FOR THEM. STRENGTH IS NOT FOUND IN THE FOREARM IT IS FOUND IN THE FOREHEAD!!
Khal: During your days as Tairrie B. in the hip-hop world and the release of "Power Of A Woman", how long did it take for people to look at you seriously as a white female rapper? Did the prejudice effect you a lot in the music business at the time, if so did it strengthen your song writing ability?
Tairrie: I LOVED HIP HOP, HARDCORE RAP ACTUALLY. ERIC B & RAKIM, BOOGIE DOWN PRODUCTIONS, SCHOOLLY D AND NWA.IT WAS SCARY AND INTENSE AND IT EVOKED FEELINGS ON EVERY LEVEL.I THINK I WAS TAKEN SERIOUSLY BY A FEW PEOPLE BUT NOT BY EVERYONE. A WHITE WOMAN IN A BLACK MALE DOMINATED FIELD OF MUSIC?? NO WAY WAS SHE GONNA BE RESPECTED RIGHT? WELL, I NEVER DID ANYTHING TO EARN DISRESPECT...IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN? I BELIEVE THAT I LOST LOVE FOR THE HIP HOP WORLD BASED ON SO MANY THINGS I WENT THROUGH AND PEOPLE I DEALT WITH. I FELL OUT OF LOVE WITH IT ALL. IT MADE ME SAD BECAUSE I REALLY DID LOVE EVERY ASPECT OF IT. I WAS A BIT OF A FREAK BACK THEN. THIS LITTLE WHITE CHICK FROM SYLMAR WEARING PUMAS AND ADIDAS TRACKSUITS AND GOLD JEWELRY AND BREAKDANCING AND DOING GRAFFITI. I LOVED CLASSIC ROCK AND SOME PUNK AND NEW WAVE AND EVEN DISCO AND OLDIES BUT RAP WAS THE SHIT IN MY BOOK. RAP MUSIC SPOKE TO ME ON ANOTHER LEVEL. I THINK THAT WHEN I LOOK AT PINK OR GWEN STEFANI SOMETIMES I CRACK UP BECAUSE I SEE SOME OF THE HAIRSTYLES OR JEWELRY OR CLOTHES AND THINK..DAMN THAT SHIT LOOKS LIKE ME 12 AND 14 YEARS AGO. I CAN'T PICTURE MYSELF RAPPING OR HAVING BLONDE HAIR TODAY. I'M NOT THE SAME PERSON. ALTHOUGH WHEN I HEAR OLD SCHOOL RAP I STILL GET THAT WARM FEELING INSIDE. THE NEW SHIT DOESN'T DO IT FOR ME AT ALL.
Khal: Has the music industry treated you better now than it did back then or is it pretty much the same as always..fucked up?
Tairrie B: THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE FUCKED UP...PERIOD. YOU'VE GOTTA HAVE A THICK SKIN AND STRONG MENTAL HEALTH TO ENTER THE WORLD OF MUSIC AND NOT LET IT TURN YOU INTO SOMETHING BITTER AND UGLY. I LOVE WHAT I DO. THAT DOESN'T MEAN I LOVE THE PEOPLE IN THE MUSIC BUSINESS I HAVE TO DEAL WITH. MOST OF THEM ARE IN IT FOR THE WRONG REASONS. WHEN I FALL OUT OF LOVE WITH IT, I WILL JUST STOP. AS SIMPLE AS THAT. LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO BE MISERABLE AND I BELIEVE IN WHAT WE ARE DOING ENOUGH TO BELIEVE THAT THERE ARE A FEW DECENT PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO CAN HELP US TO ACHIEVE OUR GOALS AND GET OUR MUSIC OUT THERE ON OUR TERMS.
Khal: The My Ruin message board has got to be the most interesting place to be on the bands site. It's pretty funny at times and also a little stupid too. Well, for starters who was the person that wrote you complaining about not receiving his/her merchandise and you as a person...I didn't really get what the person was saying myself but he/she looked like they needed to get something off their chest at 4 or 5 in the morning?
Tairrie B: OUR MESSAGE BOARD AT TIMES IS LIKE BLABBERMOUTH.NET. IT'S NUTS. WE HAVE A BOARD THAT ALLOWS THE PERSON WHO POSTS TO REMAIN ANONYMOUS WHICH SOMETIMES CAN TURN INTO A HORRIBLE DRAMA FEST. WE POST WHEN WE FEEL IT NECESSARY...OR WHEN WE JUST HAVE SOMETHING WE'D LIKE TO SHARE. I THINK THE PERSON WHO WROTE WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT WAS JUST SOMEONE TRYING TO SEEK ATTENTION. WE DO NOT FUCK KIDS OVER WITH OUR MERCH. THAT PERSON HAS NEVER EMAILED US DIRECTLY AND THE EMAIL THEY POSTED WAS PHONY SO...I ALWAYS SIGN MY NAME TO MY POSTS BECAUSE I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW IT'S ME. I DO HAVE STRONG OPINIONS AND BELIEFS ON THINGS...WHICH SOMETIMES DON'T GO OVER TOO WELL FOR WHATEVER REASON BUT HEY...THAT'S THE WAY LIFE WORKS. WE ARE ALL INDIVIDUALS WITH OUR OWN IDEAS AND WE ALL HAVE THE RIGHT TO SPEAK OUR OWN MINDS. I JUST HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE GET NASTY OR MAKE UP BULLSHIT THAT IS OUT OF LINE. THAT'S NOT COOL AT ALL. MOST BANDS DO NOT EVEN COMMUNICATE WITH THE KIDS WHO WRITE ON THEIR MESSAGE BOARD OR EMAIL THEM. I LOVE THE FACT THAT KIDS FEEL THEY CAN CONTACT US. WE ARE APPROACHABLE. WE ARE ONE OF THEM.
Mick M: Our message board can be a soap opera from hell, but that's why people go there. You can post without signing over all your personal info. Most of the time it's entertaining even when people are talking shit about us or to each other. It's easy to talk amazing amounts of shit when you are not responsible for what you say because no one knows who you are. I think it gets really lame when it's racist, sexist or threatening bullshit, but people can speak freely and they DO!!!!!
Khal: Also on the message board why would anyone do something that stupid as to say that your going to die? Some people really have a lot of time on their hands.
Tairrie B: WELL I'M STILL ALIVE AS I WRITE THIS SO...HOPEFULLY NOT IN THE NEAR FUTURE!!
Mick M: Some people will say ANYTHING to get a response. Attention whores.
Khal: During Kitties "Run Like Hell Tour" I've noticed that you sang a couple of new songs from the upcoming album and it was outstanding. Is this album going to be heavier/harder than "A Prayer Under Pressure" in your eyes?
Tairrie B: PRAYER WAS VERY HEAVY TO ME AND I AM REALLY PROUD OF THAT RECORD. IT WAS ALMOST ALL WRITTEN IN THE STUDIO AND UNDER EXTREME PRESSURE AND TIME LIMITS.THE NEW STUFF IS HEAVIER I BELIEVE BUT ALSO A BIT DIFFERENT. I LIKE TO THINK OF IT AS SLEAZY STONER METAL. I HATE BEING PUT INTO A CATEGORY BUT WE ARE NOT NU-METAL THAT'S FOR SURE! ONCE AGAIN THANK GOD FOR MICK!!
Khal: Are the lyrics to the new album more deeper and personal than "A Prayer Under Pressure" and "Speak and Destroy"? In my opinion I think "Speak and Destroy" is the best and most personal album to date. I hope the new album proves me wrong.
Tairrie B: WELL IT THINK PEOPLE TEND TO THINK THAT "SPEAK" IS MORE PERSONAL BECAUSE OF SONGS LIKE "JUNE TENTH" AND "HORRIBLE PAIN". I THINK EVERY ALBUM I HAVE EVER DONE IS REALLY PERSONAL. MANHOLE'S "ALL IS NOT WELL" WAS REALLY DEEP AND SCARY TO ME LYRICALLY. IT TOUCHED ON SUBJECTS THAT WERE VERY PAINFUL TO TALK ABOUT. I THINK THE NEXT RECORD DEALS WITH ALL THE ISSUES WE AS A BAND AND ME AS A PERSON HAVE BEEN GOING THROUGH OVER THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF. I AM IN A WONDERFUL LOVING AND HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP AT THIS MOMENT SO I HAVE NOTHING TO DRAW FROM AS FAR AS PERSONAL EXPERIENCE OF MY RELATIONSHIP BEING SICK OR DARK BECAUSE IT IS NOT. I THINK IN ORDER TO GROW AS AN ARTIST YOUR THOUGHTS MUST CHANGE AND GO INTO OTHER AREAS. I HAVE ALWAYS VIEWED MY WRITING AND RELIGION AS THE SAME THING..THE RELIGION OF RELATIONSHIPS. WHATEVER THAT MEANS AND WHOMEVER THAT ENTAILS. OUR NEXT RECORD WILL BE WHAT IT IS...US.
Khal: When was the last time you heard from Jessika of Scarling and what is she up to these days?
Tairrie B: SHE IS CURRENTLY ON TOUR FOR TWO WEEKS IN THE STATES.
Khal: For the female musicians/song writers out there looking to be successful in this male dominated business, what advice can you give them from your experience?
Tairrie B: MY ADVICE IS BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU SIGN AND WHO YOU CHOOSE TO WORK WITH. BE TRUE TO YOURSELF AND YOUR ART. BE HONEST.
Khal: Just the other day, I introduced my friends to a couple of your songs because they never heard of My Ruin before and low and behold, they were amazed by the sound of your voice and instantly fell in love. Who would you say is the inspiration of your vocal style? Do you play any instruments besides "The Throat"?
Tairrie B: NO, ONLY THE THROAT...I AM MUSICALLY RETARDED. I LOOK GREAT HOLDING MEGHANS BASS AT REHEARSAL BUT SOUND HORRIBLE IF I TRY TO ACTUALLY PLAY IT. MY PLACE IS ON THE MICROPHONE. IT IS WHERE I AM THE SAFEST AND THE MOST, AT HOME.
Khal: Some guys I've talked to claim that they didn't know or listen to any females in bands, do you think this is due to their ignorance? There are also some guys that associate a female in a band as weakness or not raw enough to be metal. How do you respond to this bullshit the Miss B. way? Lets end this so nobody asks this question again cause it's a question that irks me just as much as it does you. I just want this to be the last interview I would have to see this question.....sorry I just went off.
Tairrie B: PEOPLE FEAR WHAT THEY DO NOT KNOW.SAD BUT TRUE.IT'S A VERY OLD SCHOOL WAY OF THINKING. HEY I DID NOT INVENT WOMEN SCREAMING. THERE ARE MANY AMAZING WOMEN WHOM I RESPECT THAT CAME BEFORE ME AND SET THE STANDARD. I HAVE BEEN INSPIRED BY WOMEN LIKE JOAN JETT, PATTI SMITH, WENDY O. AND EVEN MADONNA. THE FACT IS THAT I HAVE ALSO BEEN INSPIRED BY MANY MEN IN ROCK AS WELL. I HAVE NEVER TRIED TO COPY OR BE SOMEONE ELSE BECAUSE THAT'S POINTLESS. I JUST SORT OF LEARNED TO WORK MY VOICE INTO IT'S OWN INSTRUMENT. I AM NOT A SINGER...I AM A VOCALIST. I THINK THAT MANY MEN ASSOCIATE FEMALE BANDS WITH WEAKNESS BUT I ASSOCIATE MANY MALE BANDS WITH WEAKNESS. I HAVE A LONG LAUNDRY LIST OF MEN IN ROCK THAT I THINK ARE WEAK...WEAK AS FUCK AS MUSICIANS AND VOCALISTS. ON RECORD WITH THE HELP OF HEAVY PRO TOOLS AND SAMPLING THEY SOUND KILLER BUT PUT THEM ON A STAGE WITH A MIC AND NO EFFECTS AND THEY SOUND LIKE A 10 YEAR OLD GIRL. THAT'S FUNNY TO ME. FUCK THE EFFECTS AND THE BULLSHIT. GIVE ME A MIC AND I WILL SCREAM THE SAME SCREAM YOU HEAR ON MY RECORD ON STAGE. MY ADVICE TO ALL THE MEN WHO THINK THAT WOMEN CAN'T ROCK...COME TO A MY RUIN SHOW BOYS AND LET ME CHANGE YOUR MIND. WE AREN'T A CHICK BAND THOUGH..WE DO HAVE A GUY AND THAT'S THE ONE THING THAT DOES FREAK ME OUT A LITTLE. MICK IS A VERY IMPORTANT PART OF MY RUIN AND WITHOUT HIM THERE WOULD NOT BE A BAND. I WANT HIM TO GET THE CREDIT HE DESERVES BECAUSE HE IS THE REASON I DECIDED TO MAKE MY RUIN INTO A REAL BAND AND NOT KEEP IT A SOLO PROJECT AS IT STARTED WHEN I RECORDED SPEAK AND DESTROY WITH VARIOUS MUSICIANS IN 1999. PEOPLE TEND TO REALLY TALK ABOUT THE CHICK FACTOR IN THIS BAND BUT...FUCK THAT BECAUSE THE MAN FACTOR IS VERY DOMINANT!!
Mick M: Chicks can rock HARD!! Bring any non believers to a MY RUIN show!!
Khal: Is there any female performers that you enjoy a lot...besides Kittie, we already know that?
Tairrie B: KITTIE WERE KILLER LIVE. I HAVE NEVER REALLY BEEN A BIG FAN OF KITTIE ON RECORD TO BE HONEST. I THINK THAT MORGAN'S VOCALS LIVE ARE KICK ASS, SHE HAS A GREAT STAGE PRESENCE AS WELL. THE NEW GUITARIST JEFF AND BASS PLAYER JENN ARE FANTASTIC. THE DRUMMER IS PRETTY MUCH AVERAGE AT BEST NOTHING IMPRESSIVE, BUT THEY DO COME ACROSS REALLY GOOD LIVE AND BETTER THAN A LOT OF PEOPLE GIVE THEM CREDIT FOR. I LIKE THE GOSSIP, BOSS HOG, PJ HARVEY, THE DISTILLERS, JESSICKA..I DON'T KNOW? THERE ARE SO MANY BANDS I ENJOY WITH WOMEN. I THINK THAT SHIRLEY MANSON IS AWESOME. SHE IS SO BAD ASS LIVE..AND FUNNY. SHE IS DARK AND SEXY AND REALLY AN INCREDIBLE FRONT WOMAN. SHE IS VERY NICE TOO AND I RESPECT THE FACT THAT SHE IS NOT AFRAID TO SPEAK HER MIND AND IS BULLSHIT FREE!!
Khal: For the record this is not a question of mine..here's a dumb one...What are the chances of you doing a song with Marilyn Manson or Karyn Crisis of Skullsick Nation in the near future?
Tairrie B: DUETS AND GUEST APPEARANCES ARE BECOMING VERY OVERRATED. I THINK KARYN ROCKS AND SO DOES MANSON BUT I DON'T REALLY SEE EITHER OF THOSE THINGS HAPPENING. I WOULD LOVE TO DO A DUET WITH NEIL FALLON THE SINGER OF CLUTCH!! HE IS THE SHIT!! I THINK THERE ARE SOME VOCALISTS OUT THERE WHO ARE SO UNIQUE AND ORIGINAL LIKE GRADY AVENELL OF WILL HAVEN OR SCOTT HILL OF FU MANCHU. AT THE MOMENT I'M LISTENING TO THE HELLACOPTERS, ORANGE GOBLIN, FIREBALL, MINISTRY AND MASTEDON. THESE ARE SOME VOCALISTS!!!!!
Khal: What is next on the agenda for My Ruin besides getting ready for the next album?
Tairrie B: WE ARE GOING TO START RECORDING IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS AS WE HAVE SO MANY NEW SONGS WE NEED TO GET DOWN ON TAPE. WE HAVE JUST GOTTEN MANAGEMENT SO IT'S ON TO THE NEXT STEP.
Khal: Your show at New York was amazing, I've waited a long time to finally see and meet the band (although I didn't meet you in NY but we hooked up in VA). Will you guys come back to see us New Yorkers? I thought you guys got a good vibe in NY!!
Tairrie B: NEW YORK ROCKS!! IT'S THE HARDEST PLACE TO PLAY I THINK BUT IT WAS REALLY WONDERFUL. IT'S OUR DRUMMER YAEL'S HOMETOWN. SO IT HAD A GOOD VIBE. AFTER THE SHOW I GOT TERRIBLY SICK IN THE RESTAURANT NEXT DOOR AND NEARLY CHOKED TO DEATH. I COUGHED UP BLOOD AND WAS REAL SICK. IT WAS A BAD NIGHT FOR ME IN NY WHICH WAS A BUMMER..SO I NEED A RETURN TRIP FOR SURE!!!
Mick M: We would love to come back to New York and the whole east coast for that matter. We had so many great shows on the tour. What a bunch of crazy rocking motherfuckers!
Khal: Finally I would like to thank you Miss B. and the rest of the band for making my weekend in Virginia a great one, because it was REALLY SHITTY, and if it wasn't for the fact that you guys and Kittie where playing that night I would've left that night to go back to New York. MY RUIN made MY WEEKEND...thanks (ha ha). Also thanks for your time and tell Dawn the rest of the band I said Hi and again congratulations!!
Tairrie B: THANK YOU SWEETIE...THANKS FOR EVEN TAKING THE TIME TO WRITE THESE QUESTIONS. WE APPRECIATE ANY HELP WE CAN GET AND YOUR SUPPORT RULES AND SO DO YOU!!!
Mick M: You Rule!!!
MISS B. / MICK MURPHY / July 1, 2002
