Brock Equestrian competes on two different circuits, the Ontario Universities Equestrian Association (OUEA) and the Intercollegiate Horseshow Association (IHSA)
Both of these circuits run on their horse shows based on the typical intercollegiate hunter seat equitation format: Riders compete in one of four division based on their skill level and are assigned a horse provided by the show organizer/host school. Volunteer warm up riders school the horses over the designated courses for the day prior to the competition, and teams watch each horse and take note of how they need to be ridden. Riders do not actually mount the horse they are to ride until they are about to enter the ring and are led by a volunteer. They are only able to pick up their reins once they are in the ring and about to start their course.
While it’s a little scary at first, riders come to appreciate this style of horse show as it puts all riders on a level playing field due to the fact that no one is riding a horse they are familiar with.
All competitive members must participate in at least one lesson a month with the team coach, and regular fitness classes. We like to keep our riders in tip top shape both for their own good and the good of the team. A rider who is physically fit is 10 steps ahead of the game when they put their foot in the stirrup!
