Pam Purvis to Perform Pur-Fectly at WAC
|
Concert: Friday, September 22nd 2000 at 8pm |
Come hear
divine diva Pam Purvis perform to pur-fection at the Watchung Arts Center!
Purvis is returning to Watchung with her saxophonist husband Bob Ackerman. This dynamic duo will perform at the center on Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. They last performed there almost one year ago. Purvis and Ackerman themselves, however, have been performing together for over 25 years.
The two first met while Purvis was performing at Gulliverâ in West Paterson. They have worked together incessantly, both onstage and off, practically every day and night since! In performing together all this time, the two have developed a style that is uniquely all their own.
“Purvis and Ackerman emanate a harmonic style reminiscent of Lester Young and Billie Holiday,”says Rosalind Picou of Jazz Now magazine. “Purvis’s voice follows Ackerman’s full-bodied horn with authoritative harmony and absolute charm.”
Purvis’s concerts at the center always contain elements of surprise and humor! She is a vivacious performer who is at her best in front of an intimate live audience. For her return to the center, Purvis will be performing a concert entitled ˜My Favorite Songs.” This concert will consist of, (what else?), her favorite songs! The songs she has chosen include not only popular standards from the great American songbook, but also some selections audiences might not expect. What Watchung fans can expect is an evening of overall musical excellence from a singer who is definitely in her prime and at the top of her game!
Tickets
are only $10 and include refreshments. Reservations are strongly recommended.
Diva devotees can reserve their sets by calling the center at: (908)-753-0190.
Purvis pur-fectionists and Ackerman aficionados won't want to miss this 25th
anniversary of a lifetime of love and music.
