I am currently researching the following surnames:
I have traced the Scarboroughs, Bullocks, and Crumps to freed slaves who migrated from or chose to remain in the following North Carolina counties:
While branches of the family remained in North Carolina, the branch I am descended from migrated to Arkansas in the 1880s. Families from the Scarborough line of this family are known to have migrated from Arkansas to Illinois and California.
Back to Table of ContentsI am trying to trace the ancestry and descendants of George W. Scarborough (b. North Carolina March 1853) and his wife Millie Bullock (b. North Carolina Jun 1862) . Census records show that George and Millie moved from North Carolina to Lonoke County, Arkansas during the period of 1891-1892.
Census records also reveal that their parents were also born in North Carolina. I have found a great deal of data regarding Millie's siblings, however I have been unable to find documentation and information on George's relatives.
I have found two individuals who may be related to George who seem to have moved from North Carolina to Lonoke County in the same period--Francis Scarborough (b. North Carolina ca. 1851) and her son General W. Scarborough (b. North Carolina ca. 1884) .
George and Millie had the following children (Cromwell Sr. is my great-grandfather):
Child's Name | Sex | Date of Birth | Place of Birth |
---|---|---|---|
Walter James Scarborough | Male | October 1883 | North Carolina |
George Scarborough | Male | June 1885 | North Carolina |
Martin James Scarborough | Male | October 1888 | North Carolina |
Charity Scarborough | Female | August 1891 | North Carolina |
Cromwell Mentrolia Scarborough | Male | April 1892 | Lonoke County, Arkansas |
Ann Mariah or Aria Scarborough | Female | June 1893 | Lonoke County, Arkansas |
Jesse Scarborough | Male | June 1895 | Lonoke County, Arkansas |
Fannie Scarborough | Female | July 1897 | Lonoke County, Arkansas |
Joseph Scarborough | Male | June 1900 | Lonoke County, Arkansas |
Leah or Lera Scarborough | Female | 1903 | Lonoke County, Arkansas |
My great-grandfather, Cromwell M. Scarborough, passed in Keo, Arkansas in January 1981. His obituary states he was a member of the Pride of Allport Masonry Lodge but I cannot locate information regarding this lodge. If anyone has any data regarding this lodge, please contact me.
Back to Table of ContentsI am trying to trace the ancestry and descendants of Cromwell Bullock (b. North Carolina, June 1830) and his wife Charity Farmer (b. North Carolina) .
Cromwell lived to be at least 106 years of age and had two other known wives: Fannie [last name unknown] and Polly Wooten. Cromwell was born in Plymouth, North Carolina and later sold to Joshua Bullock of Edgecombe County.
Cromwell and Charity's children, exlcuding the ones I know to have migrated to Arkansas, seem to have settled in and around Edgecombe, Nash, Pitt, and Wilson counties.
I have found data which confirms that Cromwell had 12 children, unfortunately I have been unable to find any information for three of these children.
Below you will find the information on the first generation of the Bullocks I am researching. If these names appear in your family line or you've come across them in your research, I'd appreciate hearing from you.
