Ebenezer McKenzie was born in 1757 in Rowchoish, Scotland to parents unknown. In about 1765 he left Scotland and came to the American colonies, where he settled initially in Massachusetts. In 1776, he was listed as 6'1" with brown hair, light complexion and a resident of Penobscot.
In 1776, the American Revolutionary War errupted and Ebenezer enlisted in the Colonial Army, assigned to the 1st Massachusetts regiment as a sergeant.
Ebenezer's war time travels included Marshall Field in 1776, Providence in 1776, Valley Forge in 1777, West Point in 1781, and Yorktown in 1782. He served a total of six years and nine months before recieving an honorable discharge and a Medal of Merit for his service. Ebenezer was present at Yorktown when British General Cornwallis surrendered his forces.
Near the end of the war he married Elizabeth Brown, a young lady who came from a Quaker colony on Nantucket Island. Once the war ended and America had achieved Independence, Ebenezer and Elizabeth moved to Haverstraw, New York.
The couple had children and enjoyed a quiet life in New York for the remaining days. Ebenezer died on 10 February 1812 at the age of 55 years old. Elizabeth lived for another 32 years and remarried to a Mr. Conley. Ebenezer is the great-grandfather x 6 of Nicolas and Caitlin Pobieglo.
