Where this photograph was taken (in 1909), stands the present day house in Denbeath of Kenneth and Aileen. You might notice that from between what was once a grassy outlook over the Forth Estuary (behind the photographer) and the Randolph Wemyss Memorial Hospital (built by the widow of a man responsible for local industry at the time, Lord Wemyss) there is a main road (Wellesley Road) which had a tram line running down the middle of it at one time (started in 1908). The hospital was paid for by a "special tax" imposed on the mine workers. Today the view of the hospital from Kenneth's front-room is very similar, surrounded by trees and various other slightly less elegant buildings.
