The German meaning for Slusser is "one who makes Locks and Keys"
The SLUSSER name was originally Schlosser, (other variations include
Schluser, Schlusser, Schlusser and
Slusser) in Germany before they came to America to farm the rich lands of
Pennsylvania in the 1700's. Most Slussers
settled in Nescepect, Luzerne County, in Northwestern Pennsylvania. The
largest concentration of Slussers in the
United States today are still in that same area.
Historical Note: A "George Schlosser" (1714 - 1802) was a member of the
eight men from the city of Philadelphia, who
held a convention on July 15, 1776 to promulgate the new Constitution for
the United States of America. Among the
other members were Benjamin Franklin and Owen Biddle.
