The Sitzler Genealogy Page
WELCOME!
On this page I will be uploading relevant information about
the Sitzler Family descended from Philip Sitzler, a soldier
of German ancestry, who fought in the American Revolutionary War.
____________________________________________________________
It is uncertain when they arrived
from Germany, however,
Wilhelm and Regina Sitzler lived in Pennsylvania, and had two Children according
to the
Trinity Lutheran Church archives in Lancaster, PA:
Phillip was born on the 17th
of March 1748 and his older sister, Barbara,
was born on the 5th of March 1745.
Military records state that he was born in 1745 in Pennsylvania, so there seems
to be a confusion.
He was, however, baptized on April 24th.
He enlisted on January 24th or 26th, of 1776
in the REVOLUTIONARY WAR
as a breeches maker in Capt. Nathanial Smiths 1st Co. of Matross (as Artillary
Sargent)
He fought in the war, serving at Fort McHenry, and was discharged in 1780
In the 1790 Census he is found in Maryland
According to record, he was married on January
19th, 1797 in Maryland to:
Polly Burk, an irish lady with red hair,
according to family legend..
(She was possibly born in 1766 in Augusta, Virginia, but
this is uncertain)
They had four children:
1.) FRANCIS (FANNY)
2.) WILLIAM
3.) BENNET
4.) JANE
In the 1810 Census he is found in Coventry Township.
In 1816 - His profession is listed as: Wood Corder
In 1818 - His profession is listed as: Brick maker (on his pension
form)
He owned a log cabin at Boch and Cross streets in downtown Baltimore,
with a $16/year lease called "David's fancy".
In the 1820 Census he is found in Delaware, Dist of Columbia, Maryland.
One record states that Philip
died on the 28th of February, 1829, another states it was 8/18/1832.
However, the church record states he died on July 20th 1832, at the age of 87,
and that he was buried in the
Methodist Churchyard, in plot 32, Baltimore City, Maryland.
