To advance the evolution of the Métis community through the development and support of the Métis family as a nuclear and extended system. The family is recognized in interaction with economic, political, cultural and educational institutions and agencies.
South Island Métis Nation offers political representation to Métis People on issues with far-reaching implications such as;

CITIZENSHIP entitles you to the following:
A certificate of Aboriginal Status - photo identification membership card
the right to vote for Aboriginal Leaders - at the community, regional, provincial levels
the right to hold office at the community, regional, provincial and national levels
the right to participate in meetings and provide input on all issues at the community, regional, and provincial levels
to receive up to date information on issues and/or government policies and programs that affect Aboriginal people
to become eligible to be elected or appointed as a voting delegate to attend Regional and Provincial Annual General Meetings
the opportunity to serve on the Board of Directors at the community, regional, provincial and national levels
the opportunity to register for potential land claims or intervene in existing land claims
Certificate of Aboriginal Status may be used for employment equity purposes as well as international travel, work and access to U.S. educational institutions and free tuition
