Long dark dreams and silent screams that chase away the light
stealing into sleepless streams of consciousness at night
slithering past sentries
past the sentinels of sight
deepening the creases and the crevices of spite
jangling the coffers of the hatred that we fight
jarring us and barring us from being what we might
snaking through our suffering
permitting through our pain
a kingdom come to soothe our aching
smoothe our waking train
of thought along its tracks
concealing cracks of what they call
the Dawn of man's own mindstream
such a fine stream
searching for a bed to make
and lie in
silly human brain
its chain of thought gets caught
on rocks
a lot
and still we cry in
shame and daub our blame
across the faces of our brothers
like a flame
and in our secret places
think the others aren't the same
and think the Oneness we proclaim
is but a name
we sleep a wink
and in our deepest silence
still
we sink
