R. Scott Stewart A native of Maryland, singer, songwriter and guitarist R. Scott Stewart was raised in Hialeah, Florida, where in the '70s he "roadied" for a few local Miami-Dade musicians and various incarnations of their bands and started learning guitar chords. In the Eighties he hitch hiked to Southern California in 1982 and spent two years in the desert. The desert changes one's perspective, and he found it affected his "poetic processes." By mid-eighties he found himself married and the father of the first of four girls, and living in Springfield, Il, where over the next thirteen years he became active in the literary scene. In Springfield he became a board member and eventually vice president of the critically acclaimed Poet's & Writer's Literary Forum of Springfield, founded by poet and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Bob Bartel. But it was seven years ago after Stewart moved into the Wheeling area from New York City after a writing sabbatical that his music began to take its present form. Subtly anchored in the Caribbean influences of his youth, Mr. Stewart has been highly influenced by the diversity and stylings of local musicians, including local favorites Randy Keener and Adrian Niles; California, PA's Roger Sealy, in whose band "Rose Bros." he played guitar for two years; and many others. He considers that "The excellence of Ohio Valley musicians motivated me to work harder. I consider myself the lyricist, not a singer or musician, but I work hard so that people will enjoy the music as well as the message in the songs." He often performs with his talented daughter Stefani, who provides backing and lead vocals. Continuing his education, he recently obtained a Bachelor's degree in business from West Liberty State College. Works include the chapbook "Blazing a Trail" (1996), musical work on Carla Anderton's "Hotel Peer Amid," a CD called "Visions," performing in and contributing to the Ohio Valley's Panhandle Jam concerts, and several novels currently under preparation for marketing. Of these, "Angel in Time," a science fiction piece that reads like fantasy-adventure, won 2nd place for category "Novels" in West Virginia's 2005 "Emerging Writers" contest. He continues to play select venues in the Greater Pittsburgh-Ohio Valley area.
