Saturday, August 09, 2003 UK Article, Ticket Auction to Benefit Clear Water, MrBB Farewell

UK Article
I've added an article in the "Articles" section. It is from a UK paper called the Weekly Telegraph. It's very insightful and may be able to answer some questions for those who are wondering if Jewel "sold-out" I can only roll my eyes at the notion! :) Here's a link.

// Weekly Telegraph, "Quantum Leap" - August 2003
Jewel, the girl-next-door singer-songwriter from Alaska, has reinvented herself as a raunchy dance diva. . . with a surprising interest in atomic physics. By Craig McLean

TICKET AUCTION TO BENEFIT CLEARWATER PROJECT
As we previously mentioned, www.stubhub.com is currently working with Jewel to auction off FRONT ROW TICKETS AND PASSES TO MEET JEWEL! Now, most of her upcoming shows are now available as well as tickets to an upcoming Jewel video shoot! Proceeds will benefit Jewel's favorite humanitarian endeavor, ClearWater Project.

FAREWELL FROM MrBB
Hi All,

This is a difficult message for me to write. I guess I should start by
saying it's been an amazing adventure being MrBB for the past 8 years. But
like all good things eventually, this alter-ego phase of my life is coming
to an end. I've had many unforgettable experiences and some of the most
enjoyable have been the opportunities I've had to meet many of you at
events and concerts over the years.

I plan to expand my work in independant recording archive management and
audio engineering, which is where my true passion has always been. I'm
most comfortable behind the scenes working directly with music and helping
facilitate the creative process.

It's Jewel's creative process and prolific nature that has always
intrigued me and how she applies it to recording and performing that
maintains my interest and respect. I may stay on in this capacity, but
will no longer be involved in other areas, including the websites,
calendar management or communicating to you through JeweLink. These areas
are now in the very capable hands of her new management.

Theres been some ups and downs over the years, but overall, its been a
genuine honor to work for all of you. You've been fascinating, hilarious
and quite the challenge at times, but in my experience, you remain the
most thoughtful and intelligent fanbase on the planet.

I wish you all the best and hope to run into many of you again. Take care
of each other and stay passionate about music.

Over and out,
Alan Bershaw (MrBB)

Friday, August 08, 2003 The "Build the Ultimate Jewel Fansite" Contest

Hi, Abbie here. The webmistress of this site. To be quite honest, I haven't worked on the site in a long time. I began building this site a year ago. It was so time consuming and took so VERY long because I wanted to make it the best -- the ULTIMATE -- Jewel site. Unfortunately, after plugging away for about 5 months, I got a little exhausted and frustrated with pouring over lines and lines of code for hours on end. But it was worth it! When I received an email from the Jewel Online Street Team about the "Build the Ultimate Jewel Fansite" contest, I was so excited! This page has been sitting on the internet, practically finished for 6 months. I had the perfect start! So, I gave it a new look am working on adding a ton of content (there is so much more due to the release of 0304). When I've completely finished, I will submit it for the contest! Wish me luck!! February 10, 2002Another message from Jewel!!

Hello again all,

I’m back in the studio in L.A. I was gonna do my CD in San Diego, but I
couldn’t get my studio up in time. So here we are. Randy Newman was in
the studio next to me for the first few days. I’m the biggest fan, and as
he walked by, he said “Hi,” and I think all I managed was a "Gruh, uh, f,
….Hi" or some such gibberish, as the blood had left my head. He said,
"Thanks for putting me in your song 'Do You Want To Play'......even though
it was about a sick girl." Yes, that’s right, ladies and gentleman, Randy
Newman has heard my songs!

I'll be back to report more from the studio and do some more name
dropping :-)

XOXO,

Jewel

February 10, 2002A message from Jewel!!

Soooo, my new record...

"What on earth is she doing?" you ask. "We’ve heard so many rumors, even
that she’s doing a rap record!" Well, let me try to explain...

This record is all about fun . . . I love this record. I’m combining all
types of music, which won’t surprise most of you that have been to a few
of my live shows . . .

*How it all began *

I have always loved R&B rhythms, from Muddy Waters stuff to modern stuff.
I am also fascinated with electronic music, and experimenting with dance
stuff like on 'Serve The Ego.‘ I’ve been really into wanting music to
move you, not just your heart and thoughts, but your body. I wanted this
record to make you want to dance and nod your head along as you drove and
make you feel young and carefree and passionate. So there’s fierce grooves
and dance beats and futuristic keyboard and retro ‘80s synth sounds, with
acoustic sounds and organic string instruments and hand-clapping and
whistling, and then of course I strove to put thoughtful, crafted lyrics
on it all. Simple, right? The record is as lyric-driven as my last, but
it is equally rhythm-driven. It’s a fun record and has been a blast to
make so far, and should be even more fun to perform live. Any questions?
I’m producing the CD with the same guy I wrote most of the tracks
with—Lester Mendez. He’s rad. Very talented and a very cool vibe.

That’s all for now. I’ll report more later and tell you about the
awesome players on the record.

XOXO,

Jewel

August 31, 2002"Sweet Home Alabama" and "This Way" video

Recently, Jewel recorded a cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd's classic, "Sweet Home
Alabama," co-producing the session with Linda Perry. A new Disney film by
the same name, a romantic comedy starring Reese Witherspoon, will feature
Jewel's title song during the closing scene and credits. This movie is due
out in mid-September.

On Tuesday and Wednesday of this past week, initial shooting and
production began on Jewel's next video for "This Way," with Marcos Efron,
the winner of Soul City Cafe's "Jewel Video Director Search" contest in
the director's chair. Marcos was awarded a $50,000 budget to shoot his
concept for the "This Way" video, which of course included working closely
with Jewel.
