Now, I assume that Rodney and Charles ( Edward) Purvis are related most likely half brothers. And, looking at the ages of everyone it appears that Charles Edgar ( listed in census as Edward) was in Michigan by at least 1877 to marry his wife Mary. And, Rodney, with all of his family born in Ohio, I would assume that the earlyest he could have moved to Michigan is 1874 after daughter’s Estella’s birth. ( of course, always take information in census’s with a grain of salt! )

Now, it is not proof, but it looks like this is the parents of Mary Melvina Damon who married Charles. And, that they had been in Michigan since at least 1860. That Catherine was born in New York and Justice was born in Hesse region of Germany ( you might want to check that abreviation though! I would look for Justice Damon in the 1860 and 1970 census of Michigan to see what you find.!

If the above, 1860 census is correct, then it appears that Purvis’s came from New York, down to Ohio by at least the 1830s.
