Apsalos is the second largest town of Almopia and took its name from the abundant water the area had (aptome- alos = akoumbo ti thalassa) which means (touch the sea). It is said that thousands of years ago the place had seawaters.

In 1913, Professor N. Papadakis recorded the existence of two Turkish mosques, which were built with architectural material of ancient buildings. Actually, not far from the village, on the way to Polikarpi is the ancient town of Apsalos. The settlement has the form of a low hill. After works, traces of a fortification wall made of stone from the area were found. All the findings date back from the Hellenistic and Old Christian eras.

Apsalos consists of mainly "Pontian" families, of people who migrated from Asia minor after the 1922 "Katastrofi" exchange of Population. Prior to that Apsalos had only some Thracian familiys living their (as still today). Many of the settelers from Ponto were from a village called "Hatziouzman" near north west Turkey (close to Nikomidia). It is said that 80% of the villages families originated from their. Many were from the area of Ordu (Kotiora), Amasya and Ankira of Asia Minor.

The current population of Apsalos is countedat 2000 with many also living in Australia and America also many work in Germany.

·  Apsalos, with 1054 residents, is found in a distance of 11 kilometres from Aridea, in the road to the Edessa and Thessalonica.

·  Built in the entry of province of Almopia, it is the first municipal department that the visitor meet coming from  Thessalonica and Edessa.

·  The history of Apsalos is lost in depths of centuries. ·  The Christian residents of the village came in the period of 1922-34 after the mikrasiatiki(Asia Minor) destruction and the exchange of populations. They were inhabitants from Pontos, Thraces and Mjkrasja'tes.

·  The native of the Pontian residents emigrated from the region of Hatzi' Osma'n of Nikomi'dia, Ak Tag Mate'n province of Ankara and Mpoylga'r Mate'n (mine of Bull) southern Turkey. Also exist a few families of Pont's inhabitants that came from the region of Trapezoy'ntas and Tohouz.
