    the answers to your health questions in this "kids only" section. Elementary students will like the games like "Hey, What
    Bit Me?" Teachers can use this as a resource when health related questions come up at school (including the ever
    popular question"What are boogers?")

Tufts University Nutrition Navigator- The Tufts University Nutrition Navigator is the first online rating
    and review guide that solves the two major problems Web users have when seeking nutrition information: how to
    quickly find information best suited to their needs and whether to trust the information they
    find there. The Tufts University Nutrition Navigator is designed to help you sort through the large
    volume of nutrition information on the Internet and find accurate, useful nutrition information you can trust.

Stages of Grief- This page discusses how people each handle grief in different ways.

The Reconstructors
     Reconstructors is an interactive online game (Shockwave required) that has students work as scientists, historians,
     geographers, and detectives. Right now, there are three episodes with the fourth on its way. Each episode helps students
     understand more about drugs and enables them to make more informed choices when it comes to avoiding drugs of abuse.
     The Center for Technology in Teaching and Learning at Rice University designed this website.

University of Illinois Extension: Schools Online
     Units targeting different grades and disciplines. Need to know about Incubation and Embryology, The Adventures of
     Herman (the worm), and Apples and More. Let students Walk in My Shoes, as they participate in a variety of
     activities that increase awareness of aging, the human body, and the role of senior citizens in society. High school
     athletes will like the information found in Sports and Nutrition: The Winning Connection.

Personal Trainer
     In this WebQuest activity, students investigate exercise and nutritional habits that enhance and maintain health and
     well-being. In assuming the role of personal trainers, students must develop customized diet and exercise portfolios
     for clients of a fitness consulting firm.

Sports Illustrated for Kids
     Use this entertaining site to engage sports fans. Articles could be used for reading practice, and stats could support math
     activities.

HealthandAge.com
     HealthandAge.com is an educational webcenter focusing on issues related to gerontology and aging. Links to age-specific
     information on Alzheimers, Diabetes, Heart Disease and more. A recent addition, Mr. Long-Term Care links to resources
     supporting long-term care of loved ones, especially the elderly.

Kids Food CyberClub
    Kids today want cheeseburgers and soda, not milk and tossed salad. It is harder than ever to get them to eat right.
    That's why the Connecticut Association for Human Services and Kaiser Permanente developed this wonderful Web
    site, designed to teach 3rd to 5th graders about food and nutrition. The site is divided into sections, including "Food
    Keeps Us Well," "Rate Your Plate," and "Food Facts." Each features an interactive quiz with feedback to test and
    reinforce learning. Highlights of the  site include "The Club Cookbook" where visitors are invited to send in their favorite
    recipes and "Books We Love to Read."

Which disease is most deserving of our research dollars?
     Designed for 7th grade students, this Online Student Research Project puts the learner in a problem-solving role. "Our
     Washington legislature has set aside $5,000,000 for research to find cures for three of the most deadly diseases affecting
     mankind. It is your job as an appointed committee to prioritize the funding for the research of the following diseases: AIDS,
     Heart Disease, Cancer." This activity makes use of the Internet and "pay-for-service" information (EBSCO and Electric
     Library). Online staff development modules show how to build these kinds of activities.

     Created by educator Linda Uhrenholt with Filamentality, this simple WebQuest explores careers related to
     professional sports.

Tufts University Nutrition Navigator
     This online guide is designed to "help you sort through the large volume of nutrition information on the Internet and find
     accurate, useful nutrition information you can trust. " Search the site or browse links for kids, parents, and educators. Sites
     are reviewed by Tufts nutritionists and are updated quarterly.

Shape Up America!
     Shape Up America provides updated information on weight management and physical fitness through surveys, public
     service announcements, press releases, and more. Visitors can also determine their Body Mass Index (BMI), a ratio
     between weight and height that correlates with body fat.

Your Health Daily
     This page from the New York Times Syndicate includes the latest health news, common topics, and discussion groups.

Your Cancer Risk
     The Harvard Center for Cancer Prevention designed this tool for adults over the age of forty to assesses their risk of
    cancer.  Individuals are asked questions about diet, personal history, environment, and family history. The results can be a
    little shocking, but clarify the factors (those supported by current medical research) that contribute to cancer. Classroom
     teachers can use this tool to demonstrate to students the lifestyle decisions that impact the future. Adults can assess their
     risk of breast cancer, colon cancer, lung cancer and prostate cancer and find out ways to reduce these risks.

HomeworkSpot.com
     HomeworkSpot is a good place for students to start homework that requires online resources. Resources are grouped by
     grade level (elementary, middle school, and high school) and by theme (the Human Body or Space or Dinosaurs). The
     reference section contains current events, libraries, museums, and a reference desk. The extracurricular areas for middle
    and  high school students offer links for band, chess, and debate.

The Real Scoop on Tobacco
     Students can become experts about tobacco use and issues surrounding its use after completing this WebQuest activity. In
     the process of helping a fictitious peer quit smoking, students create an ad or poster to visually convey their message, write a
    letter to a tobacco company and an editorial for the local paper, and create a memorable message using a music video, skit,
     or TV commercial.

Science, Tobacco, and You
     Designed for fourth and fifth grade students and teachers, this site contains a multi-disciplinary unit combining media literacy
     (adsmarts) with science and psychology. Available in English and Spanish.

KidsHealth.org
     All about kid's health, this site is a safe place for kids to find out more about their bodies and feelings. Parenting information
     ranges from child behavior and development, to nutrition, general health, surgery, and immunizations.

BrainPOP
     Featuring animated movies that explain matters of health, science, and technology, this site offers useful information in

     How much exercise is required to get fit? What's the right activity? What's the best way to prevent injuries? What foods are
     healthiest? Find out the answers to these and other fitness questions by exploring the quizzes, self-tests, and pages in this
     site.

Promoting Better Health for Young People Through Physical Activity and Sports
     Ten strategies for improving the physical fitness of young people, and the adults they will become, are listed in this report by
     the Secretary of Health and Human Services and the Secretary of Education. This report is of interest for any parent,
     teacher,administrator or school board member interested in improving student health and decreasing obesity in the general
     population.

     This site is designed to help sensitize young school children to what it's like to grow up with medical problems. Based on
     research data, it includes strategies of inclusion, links for parents and teachers, and stories of some of the children who
     participated in the research.

PE Central
     Designed for physical education teachers, students, and parents, this site includes assessment ideas, PE lesson ideas,
     health lesson ideas, instant activity of the week, and equipment purchasing.

The Community Tool Box
     The Community Tool Box contains thousands of pages of how-to material and tools on community health and development.
     There are sections on everything from strategic planning to writing brochures. Each of the over 100 sections contains
     information on the topic, checklists, links to useful information, examples, and information that can be transferred to
     overheads for training purposes. In addition, links to related websites included.

Food Finder
     Food Finder provides nutritional information about fast food items. Students could use this site to find the fat content of their
     favorite burger or list low calorie items from one or more restaurants

National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information
    The National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information (NCADI) is the information service of the Center for
    Substance Abuse Prevention of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. NCADI is the world's largest
    resource for current information and materials concerning substance abuse prevention. NCADI services include an
    information services staff, free materials, customized searches, and more.

The Heart: A Virtual Exploration
     From the Franklin Institute, this sirages students to explore the heart's development and structure, blood circulation, the
     history of the heart science, and health. Includes quizzes, lesson plans, resources, activities, and a glossary.

Just Say No! An Alcohol Awareness Website for Grades 9-12
     This site educates teenagers about the dangers and the consequences of alcohol. It can be used by young people as an
     information site, as well as by classroom teachers as a resource for classroom activity ideas.

     This site offers facts on alcohol and other drugs. Includes current issues, addictions-related topics; substance pamphlets,
