I went out side and sat at the base of an old oak tree.
Leaning my back against it, I took a few deep cleansing breaths and I asked it to share it's wisdom.
As I close my eyes, this is what I saw and wrote about.

The Wisdom of the Tree

In my beginings I was just a little acorn fallen not far from a large tree.
I was afraid as the wind and mud and water washed over me.
It was dark and lonely at first, then I saw a ray of light,
I stretched a bit to reach it and pushed to get within it's sight.

As did that bit of stretching, it wasn't as easy as you might think,
there came a drop of water and I took a little drink.
Each day I was determined and I did my best you see,
I broke threw the dark place and became a little tree.

The world was big and scarey but other trees were there,
they gave me their protection when the storms whipped through the air.
At first the storms they frieghtened me, thier roar was big and lightening flashes were so bright,
I grabbed the ground with my roots and held on with all my might.

Then the storms would pass and the light would come again,
the bigger trees paid little attention to me, but I thought of them as friends.
Before I knew it I was growing, I stretched more everyday,
I had little twigs grow from me, determined I'd be a big tree someday.

I began branching out in all directions to see what I could find,
the bigger trees said nothing they had too much on their minds.
I grew taller and grew stronger, I fought the mighty winds,
I found if I stood rigid my limbs would break, so I learned how to bend.

Before long even the fiercest storms I could weather through,
I grew wider, bigger, stronger and many leaves I grew.
I stretch out to the sun caressing it's warming rays,
I was bigger and beautiful like the other trees I knew I'd bet a mightly oak someday.

But soon the cold winds blew the sun out he came less and less,
I learned to drop things I didn't need that much, my leaves fell and laid to rest.
The days and nights got colder, the sun grew harder to see,
I grew less and less I was very afraid for me.

The cold wind whispered the secret that saw me through I guess,
it told me this was winter and it was time for me to rest.
After a good while, the sun again did shine bright,
but the storms grew big and fierce,as the winds of cold and hot had many fights.

But I got through those hard times the cold the wet the wind,
and springtime grew around me and life was good again.
I lived through many season, I saw many old trees fall,
but I was big and proud now, I was the biggest tree of all.

I saw little acorns drop and nestle in the ground,
I saw them sprout forth I didn't make a sound.
When big storms rumbled through us as they had many times, again.
I stood tall and proud and for the little trees I blocked the wind.

I never said a word to them, just watch them struggle and grow,
I was the big tree now I was in the know.
Then one day a storm came, it blew it's might gale,
I felt my roots give way and with a huge crash I fell.

The earth did shake and tremble when I fell against the land,
I then knew a secret, one has to fall to know what it is to stand.
I lay there feeling useless, what use could I ever be,
A tree that isn't standing isn't a tree you see.

so I laid there on the ground in my pity and my shame,
and the weather again did beat against me with the winds and the rain.
After much time went by I began to crumble of little use I felt, laying in the muddy sog,
I wasn't even a tree any more, now I was just a log.

I'd lived a good long life I guess, since that day I fell with a mightly thud,
as I slowly wore away, now I was nothing but the mud!
Feeling very worthless now an acorn fell in me,
I turned my thinking around and helped that acorn become a tree!

So when you grow and become that might oak that stands so proud and think you're something big,
remember there are smaller ones struggling beneath you, and once you were just a twig.
Protect the ones that are trying to grow help them on their way,
So they can grow in strength and wisdom .... remember you'll fall too one day.
