Indestructible Man

Words and music by Kathy Danielson

Kathy Danielson: vocal, guitar; Tom Maynard: harmony vocal; Mike Delaney: Mandolin; Angela marseglia: bass; Ken Porter: percussion

Chorus
Well, I built my life with my hands
Board by board and nail by nail
Just doing the best that I can
But I'm not an indestructible man

He stood there drinking coffee, instead of having a cigarette
Took a great big breathe and sighed so deep, said you want to hear my story yet
I drank my first at 12 years old, drank so hard with my ma
It hurt so bad but I felt no pain, and the fire inside it did burn

Chorus

Got married while I was still in school, the baby she stole my heart
When the next one died nearly broke me in two, hit the wedge that started driving us apart
The drinks they kept on coming, but they couldn't hide the pain
But then one day I finally knew, had to stop it to live again

Chorus

That last drink killed my marriage, and left me with all the kids
What the future holds can never be told, but in the past I know I did what I did
Don't think I make excuses, for living the life I've led
By the grace of God, and the fire in my heart, I stand alive here instead of dead

Chorus

Bridge
With a hammer in your hand you can choose to build, or choose to tear it all down
What makes one man choose to build or abuse, is the question I'm turning around

Chorus
Well, he built his life with hands
Board by board and nail by nail
Just doing the best that he can
But he's not an indestructible man
