My name is Antoinette M. Stanton and I am a professional student, performer and instructor of "West African Dances".

I am a native of Chicago, Illinois. Home of the internationally acclaimed "MUNTU Dance Theatre of Chicago" Chicago's Premiere West African Dance & Theatre Company, of which I was a member for 5 years

I have been living in Las Vegas now for 14 months

I am active in the Las Vegas community teaching and instructing African Dance classes, workshops and the like. As a result, I have been quite busy and well received.

Currently I work with OLABISI African Dance Troupe as their assistant choreographer and costume designer. On Saturday's I instruct a West African Dance class at The West Las Vegas Arts Center as well as teaching African Dance for The City of North Las Vegas' Neighborhood Recreation Center.

I am constantly, contracted out to instruct African Dance workshops and I'm also in the process of producing, organizing & coordinating Las Vegas' 1st African Dance & Music Conference.

Antoinette M. Stanton

A native of Chicago, Ms. Antoinette M. Stanton has distinguished herself in her community as a woman of integrity, poise, grace and sheer determination—not to mention being someone who exudes a genuine passion for excellence in virtually everything that she does. Well known as an accomplished dancer and group fitness instructor, but also as successful local organizer, a leader, a teacher and most importantly, a wonderful mother.

A featured performer with the internationally-acclaimed MUNTU Dance Theatre of Chicago--a dance troupe specializing in West African Dance--over the past decade she has graced countless stages at ethnic and neighborhood festivals, special events and dance concerts with among the most skilled and prestigious troupes.

Beginning her career as dance and theater performing arts major at Columbia College, before becoming a lead dancer for The Blackburn Dance Troupe, chaired and instructed by the renowned Darlene Blackburn. Senior company member with Sundance M.P.A.C., and principal dancer with Lester Goodman (co-founder, The Joseph Holmes Dancer Theatre now Deeply Rooted) Dancers. Antoinette has studied African and Caribbean dance primarily, but also jazz, ballet, modern and tap & Latin, with the respected Bryant Ballet, Hubbard St. Dance Company, Joel Hall Dancers, The Chicago Dance Medium, Cultural Expressions, The Alice Art Center (Oakland), Shore ‘Nuff Dance Studio of Chicago and The West Las Vegas Arts Center.

Professionally trained and fully accredited, Ms. Stanton is certified in Sports and Safety Training with the American Red Cross and Adult, Child/Infant CPR with MEDIC First Aid. A member of the African American Association of Fitness Professionals [AAAFP]. Certified as a Group Fitness Instructor & Nutrition for Fitness Trainer through the National Exercise Training Association –NETA-(formerly NDEITA) as well as being Certified through Step Reebok to teach Step Aerobics. Ms. Stanton also possesses the Y.M.C.A. of the U.S.A. Training Certification on the Principles of Health and Fitness along with the Y.M.C.A’s Personal Trainer Certification.

She has taught and consulted on varying styles of dance, fitness and weight-loss for organizations including University of Nevada/Reno-Cooperative Extension “Healthy Hearts Project”, City of Las Vegas, Bally’s Total Fitness, The Chicago Park District, The Y.M.C.A. of Metropolitan Chicago, Body Beautiful Women’s Fitness Center, Mt. Diablo Y.M.C.A. Solo Aerobic Fitness Center, Jenny Craig Weight-Loss Centres, Beverly Art Center of Chicago, Abraham Lincoln Center, The Better Boys Foundation, The Body Workout, Braveheart Bootcamp, The F.I.T…Fits Me! Resuscitation Program and as a cheerleader/dance coach for Perspectives Charter High School in Chicago.

Currently, Antoinette works for the Clark County Cambridge Recreational Center as the “Active Seniors Program Assistant.” For the Y.M.C.A of Southern Nevada she instructs Step Aerobics, Aqua Aerobics, Senior Chair Aerobics & Personal Training. A principle dancer, assistant choreographer and costume designer for OLABISI West African Dance Troupe, she teaches African Dance at the West Las Vegas Arts Center as well as teaching both African Dance and Seniorcise for the City of North Las Vegas/Neighborhood Recreation Center. A vegetarian & avid cook, Ms Stanton teaches “Food For Health & Soul” a community based nutrition education program offered through the University of Nevada-Reno/Cooperative Extension’s “Healthy Hearts” project.
