ALMA LATINA DE LYNWOOD

Alma Latina is a nonprofit youth organization with a mission to teach student the art of folk dance and culture through music. Our instructors have traveled and trained in various Latin American cultures and brought that training to the youth of the City of Lynwood.

We have been performing at many local, state,national and international events earning a number of awards throughout the years. Our student range in ages from 7-21 years of age. Several of our Alumi students and long term students now have enriched their training and now teach at many of our local schools and still carry on the enjoyment of performing with Alma Latina.

We perform a variety of regions from Mexico as, Jalisco, Chipas, Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Nayarit, Yucatan, Michocan, Veracruz and many others. Also to add to our repertory we have Latin dance from various countries as Samba from Brazil, Cumbia’s from Columbia, Afro Peru from Peru, Punta from Central America, Salsa, Merengue, ChaCha and Mambo.

Awards Earned In 2006 we won awards for outstanding performance at 3 local parades. Downey, East Los Angeles and Lynwood city Parade performing to Latin rhythms.

Lynwood Holiday Parade Earned the Mayors trophy in 2002, 2003, and 2004, and 2006 for the best performing group in the entire parade.

USA Folklorico Competition 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 Competed in Regional and placed in Finals to win a number of awards in 1st and 2nd Place

East Los Angeles Folklorico Competition May 2000 Earned 1st and 2nd place award in intermediate and advance levels
