Support For The Disabled, , ,

There are many places where advice is given willingly and freely to people from all backgrounds, disabled people find it difficult to make people understand the problems they encounter on a daily basis. The saying ‘walk a mile in my shoes’ springs to mind. The lack of disability advice/support centres staffed by disabled people is disappointing to say the least.
Every town should have a place dedicated to supporting the disabled. The citizens advice bureau do a remarkable job for somewhere that is grossly understaffed. They cannot hope to dedicate the time necessary to attend appeals with disabled clients, they can give basic advice but cannot dedicate an entire afternoon to helping someone with a mental disorder understand a difficult and complex form or procedure or to help a physically disabled person who cannot write fill out a form which will take around two hours, just to ensure that each question is answered thoroughly.
So where do we disabled turn for support and advice? To the one place we should be turning. EACH OTHER!
