| The Parakeets are simple
electronic communication devices in either the 5 key (Parakeet 5) or 15 key
(Parakeet 15) models. Both models have a total recording time of 2 minutes
divided evenly between the keys. The high quality voice recording provides excellent playback for functional use in many settings by children and adults. With a limited message set the Parakeets may be useful for people who require the voice output for specific situations, such as shopping, in the taxi, morning news, telling jokes, asking questions and so on. Such situation-specific applications of the Parakeet may complement a sign and gesture system or communication book used by the individual. The Parakeets are supplied with carry bags which can be worn conveniently as 'waist-bags'. Each message area allows 8 seconds of recording time for a total of 2 minutes. Individual recordings can be changed at any time without affecting the others.
