The Optimist II demo showed the powerful abilities of this
fully fledged PC and its touch screen capabilities. Like all ZYGO
products, the Optimist II has modified sound output
capability for enhanced sound clarity and volume. At the rear,
a docking station of the type available for PC models is
shown.
Designed on a new generation of hand-held
tablet-size, 'personal pen' computer, the Optimist II
is a powerful augmentative / alternative communication (AAC)
aid that is ideal for direct selection on its 8.4 inch screen or scanning
its dynamic display. The unit's light weight makes carrying easy and its
audio amplifier/speaker module provides exceptionally loud, clear output.
A touch screen on the color display is easily accessed and its design
precludes the need for keyguards. AAC software may be
pre-installed and wheelchair mounting systems are available.
The Optimist II can be accessed by switches, joystick, trackball or adapted
mouse, an adaptive keyboard, voice recognition or the built-in touch screen
— or any of the standard computer access methods.
The standard unit comes pre-loaded with Windows® 98 and a variety of speech
synthesis and AAC packages are optional.
The Dialect
The Dialect is a dedicated speech generating device designed
to run a variety of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)
programs. It is a powerful hand-held, tablet-size, communication aid that is
ideal for direct selection on its 8.4 inch screen or by scanning its dynamic
display. The unit's light weight makes carrying easy and its audio
amplifier/speaker module provides exceptionally loud, clear output. This is
a 'scaled down' version of the Optimist. |
