Note: There has not been a record of divorce found for Alfred and Esther. Esther continues to have children and names Alfred as the father for every one of them. (See Wright Family Tree below) There is documented evidence that the children born to Esther after Mary could not have been Alfred's. When Esther names her next child Harry in about 1850 Alfred has already been in North America for a year and has been married to Mary Jane Clarke for three years. It would appear that Alfred had deserted Esther between 1844 and 1847. He took the child, Henry, with him and married Mary Jane Clarke under the alias of Thomas Levick.

More notes on Alfred Levick and Esther Wright Levick
Both Alfred and Esther have a somewhat unusual history. Alfred and Esther married at the Sheffield Cathedral in 1838. They appear together on the census only once, in 1841, living in the village of Troway near Eckington. At that time they have a daughter Ann who is a year old. After the census of 1841 they have a son, Henry, who is the only child whose birth is actually registered by Alfred. Mary is born in 1844 and then there is gap of six years. In 1851 Esther is living in Eckington with three of her children, Mary 6, Harry 1 and Suzannah 14 days. Ann is with her grandparents, Thomas and Elizabeth Wright. Alfred and the son Henry are nowhere to be found. In December of 1851 when Suzannah is christened, Esther is recorded in the church register as a single woman.
Now by this time Alfred is with a woman by the name of Mary Jane Clarke who he has married in Liverpool late in 1847 under the alias of Thomas Levick. He has had two children with her, John and Emma. Later census records show that Alfred and Mary Jane emmigrated to the United States around 1851. This leaves the question as to who the father is to Esther's last two children are on the 1851 census.
It doesn't stop there. In 1861 Esther has even more children; Elizabeth 5, Amos 3 and Harriet 1. Ann is 21 and Harry is 11. The most interesting thing in the household is a lodger named Amos Horner who is a widower. I have long suspected that he is the father of at least these last 3 children and in the direct ancestry line. The evidence is only circumstantial and there is no proof but three things lead me to this conclusion. 1. It is obvious that Amos Levick is named after him, 2. Abraham Amos stated his father's name was Amos Levick at the time of his marriage to Mary Ann, and 3. Alfred Levick is in fact no longer in England but in Kansas, USA. This has been proven by the surfacing of a will by his second wife, Mary Jane, leaving a small monetary token to Alfred's 3 children by Esther. This served to prove that the Alfred found in the USA was Esther's husband. Esther's children all have Alfred named as the father on their birth certificates.
