CANNES SCHOOL - RIVER BOURGEOIS 1909

This photo has come from several sources. Russell Fougere first introduced this one to me and today (April 27/03) it arrived via e-mail note from Anne Louise Babin Touesnard who has been working along with Georgie Bourque and Ann McPhee Clow to share photos with us.

I was looking for my father in this photo. He was born on the 3rd of June, 1904 so I thought he might be in school that day but several of his siblings are in the photo such as Uncle Peter Fougere and my aunts Katie and Hattie Fougere. Perhaps you will find family members there. It's a treasure of an old photo!

This is River Bourgeois 1921!

In the front line we have the teacher Sophie Burke.

To the right in the lower row we have Ethel Digout.

Stella Beranger is there.

In the middle of the upper row we have Beatrice Landry and the gentleman to the right in the upper row is John W. Samson -- 'Johnny the Diver.'

Paul Landry recognized that his grandmother Beatrice Landry is 6th from the left in the back row.

This was a 1921 group and we need more names.

        River Bourgeois Students - Combined Grade Ten & Eleven Class- First Year of the New School

                                                Stella Maris School, Church Point

         This was the first graduating class from the school which opened in 1954.  Their teacher was Sister Ann Joseph, Les Filles de Jesus. 

        Students who graduated from this class went on to nearby St. Peter's to complete grade twelve and receive their high school diplomas.

This photo actually came from two sources.  It was first submitted by Ann Louise (Babin) Touesnard who received it from Eddie &Anne Landry with the supply of names of the children. The photo was also submitted by Ann McPhee Clow with the beaming smile in the second row.

Ann wrote that this school picture was taken the year when the two schools were combined and students moved to the new one in 1954 and left the pot-belly stoves behind.  One school was located below Sam Fougere's residence - South Side River Bourgeois and the other old school was next to Susan Stone's house by the bridge going to Grand Gully - Church Point.  Frances Digout was their teacher and Ann noted that Frances will be 90 in May of 2003. Ann's daughter Mary was in her last class before she retired." 

That note was written by Ann in April of 2003.
