THE GREAT HOUSE OF GOD
by Max Lucado
In this book Max Lucado takes you on a tour of your spiritual dwelling place –
the place where your heart and the heart of God meet and find communion.
Using the Lord’s Prayer as a floor plan he helps you
explore the home that God has prepared for you Himself.
I found this a very easy book to read and full of great insights. It is easy to pick it up and just read a
chapter if you have a spare quarter hour and feel really refreshed and that you
have learned something new. He also
sprinkles his book with lots of interesting illustrations.
One chapter speaks of the Furnace that warms the whole
house. Our prayers fuel the furnace and
our pleadings are kindling to the flames.
This chapter speaks of the real need for prayer and the power of prayer.
Another chapter – The Chapel – speaks of the need to be
silent before God. He speaks about Job
and how Job did all the talking till chapter 37 then God speaks and Job is
silent. “Before he heard God, Job
couldn’t speak enough. After he heard
God he couldn’t speak at all”.
Another room was the kitchen – “Give us this day our
daily bread”. This chapter speaks of
the abundance of God’s table and how as a Father He loves to meet our
needs. “The kitchen in God’s house is no
restaurant. It’s not owned by a
stranger its run by our Father. It’s
not a place you visit and leave; it’s a place to linger and chat. It’s not open one hour and closed the next;
the kitchen is ever available.”
These are just a few of the chapters in this book that I
found quite insightful and I hope you do too.
Read and enjoy!
