Our Dancing Group

The Group was established in 1992, by a small group of dancers based in the Bankstown Region of Sydney, under the instruction of Vasilios Aligiannis. Within three years our group established a name within the Greek Community in Sydney. Our main aim is to preserve and learn the traditions and dances of our parents and grandparents. Living in a Multicultural Society like Australia we need to identify strongly to these traditions - in order to understand our heritage and our identity. Our group is also a registered member of the International Organisation of Folk Arts in Greece.

Our Aims, Objectives & Principals of Operation:

Our Dancing group today performs dances from all regions of Greece and Cyprus in Costumes from the regions we represent. We represent and dance for many Greek and Non-Greek Associations, Brotherhoods and Organisations. We also represent the Greek Community in many Multicultural Events in Sydney.

Our Junior Dancers and Groups.

Our Dancing School has four small groups made up of Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Dancers. We also have two performing Groups. With our young dancers we focus on teaching them the basic steps of dances together with traditional songs and games.

Many of these young dancers are second and third generation Greek Australians and do not even speak Greek. So, the challenge is always there but the outcome is always the same, by the Annual Dinner Dance they would have mastered the basic dances and can actually sing and speak some Greek.
