Louise Belle Slocum was born September 29, 1873, in Garden Plain, the daughter of Lyman and Ermina Hudson Slocum.
On September 29, 1896, she was married to George W. Olinger in Erie. They had six children together, and she also helped raise two sons from Mr. Olingerís previous marriage.
Mrs. Olinger chronicled several extensive trips she and her husband took through the west. The articles were printed in local newspapers. She noted that on one trip, they arrived home after traveling 3,600 miles "with the same air in the tires," quite a feat for automobile travel in the 1930s.
