George Washington Olinger, Sr. (1827-1871)


George Washington Olinger, Sr., was born April 11, 1827, in Blair County, PA, the son of Jacob and Sarah Helsel Ohlinger.

On March 27, 1855, he was married to Sarah Wilt at the Newry Lutheran Church, the Rev. J. Tichner officiating. He had about seven children prior to the Civil War. In February of 1864 Mr. Olinger volunteered for the Army, serving as a private in Company C of the 110th Pennsylvania Infantry. He served until June of 1865.

Mr. Olinger's family joined the Wilt and Young families when they came west in 1868. They settled in Spring Hill. Mr. and Mrs. Olinger had three more children before Mr. Olinger's death on September 22, 1871. He was a farmer.
