Bertha Elsie (Boecher) Masscho (1920-2007)


The following obituary marked the passing of Bertha Elsie Mascho in 2007.


Bertha Elsie Masscho, 87, of Geneseo, IL, formerly of Erie, died Saturday, September 22, 2007, at Hillcrest Nursing Home, Geneseo.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Erie. Burial will be in the Erie Cemetery, Erie. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Gibson Funeral Home, Erie. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Parkinson Disease Association.

The former Bertha Elsie Boecher was born June 06, 1920, in Erie, the daughter of Henri and Josephine Olson Boecher.

She was graduated from Port Byron High School in 1938. She then went on to marry Rene Masscho on September 14, 1940, in Rapids City, IL at St. ,John's Catholic Church.

Bertha enjoyed puzzles, gardening, crocheting and playing bingo. She was also an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) on the Erie Ambulance Service from 1978 to 1983.

Bertha retired from the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Morrison, IL, in 1983.

She will be missed by all. She is survived by her children, Hope (Don) Washburn, Rock Island, IL; Faith (Frank) Carter, Hillsdale, IL; Paul (Karen) Masscho, Erie, IL; Laurene Scholfield and her fiance Dale Rotz, East Moline, IL; and Dale (Sally) Masscho, Fenton, IL; sisters, Winifred Guignon, Ava, MO, and April Bloom, Cabool, MO; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rene; a grandson, Steve Deppe; five brothers and one sister.
