Thomas J. "Shorty" Carpenter (1925-1982)

The following obituary marked the passing of Thomas J. "Shorty" Carpenter in 1982.

Thomas J. "Shorty" Carpenter, 57, of Erie, died in his home Thursday.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Schilling-Reedy Funeral Home, with Reverend James Thomas, pastor of the Erie Baptist Church , officiating. Burial was in the Erie Cemetery.

The family has established a memorial.

He was born Jan. 2, 1925, in Portland Twp, the son of Thomas S. and Elva E. Maust Carpenter.

He married Marjorie J. Taylor, September 16, 1946, in Rock Island.

He was employed as parts manager of Morrison Implement. He had been employed for 28 years at the former Brown Implement Co., Erie.

He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Denton-Schreiner American Legion Post 582, Erie, and a member of the Whiteside County Farm Bureau.

Survivors are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Paul (Karen) Masscho of Erie, Mrs. Dan (Linda) Nelson and Mrs. Mark (Connie) Pruis both of Morrison, a son, Thomas G. Carpenter of Morrison, seven grandchildren, and a twin brother, Eugene Carpenter of Erie.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Marshall, and Ronald.
