Minerals are substances that exist in nature as
crystalline solids. Organic substances
that make up living organisms are not considered minerals. Minerals have definite chemical composition
and specific physical properties. Some
of the physical properties of minerals are their color, luster, hardness,
density, cleavage, and fracture. It is
possible to identify minerals by studying their chemical composition and
physical properties.
