1. Frank COUFAL. Born in 1841 in Czechoslovakia. Immigrated on 2 Jun 1870 to Galveston, Texas.  on 21 Oct 1872  Washington Co.,Texas. Frank died  aft 1900, he was 59. Occupation: Farmer.

 

Frank and Terezie came to Texas June 2, 1870 aboard the Galveston.  They then settled in Austin   County, Texas.  Their  three children came with them.  Between  1880 and 1900, they moved to Lavaca Co., Texas.  

 

On Lavaca County, Texas 1900 Census,  Frank's last name is spelled Zufahlc.

there is a listing for a Frantisek Coufal, 1840-1905, buried in the Oak

Hill Cemetery

at Cameron, Milam County, Texas. This possibly could be your Frank

Coufal.

 

Physical description of this cemetery is as follows:

 

The Oak Hill Cemetery is located two blocks south of the Milam County

Courthouse

in Cameron, Texas.

 

There are a total of 3,017 persons buried here and the cemetery is clean

and well-kept.

The earliest recorded burial was Martha Green's in 1859 and the earliest

recorded

birth year was Cornelius Homan's in 1794. The oldest occupant, as of

this writing,

is Cornelia Octavia Vogel at 105 years of age. Ella Dobbins Hooks lived

to be 103.

2. Terezie COUFAL. Born on 26 Nov 1862 in Cermna, Cechy. Terezie died in Colorado County, Texas on 30 Oct 1965, she was 102. Buried in Bila Hora Cemetery, Lavaca County, Texas. Occupation: Homemaker.

 

On 24 Nov 1884 when Terezie was 21, she married Josef VALCHAR, son of VALCHAR & Katherine (1838-1910), in Lavaca County, Texas. Born on 10 Apr 1864 in Johannova, Moravia. Josef died on 1 Nov 1939, he was 75. Buried in Bila Hora Cemetery, Lavaca County, Texas.

 

They had the following children:

                        i. Theresa. Born in 1886. Theresa died in 1961, she was 75. Buried in Bila Hora Cemetery, Lavaca County, Texas.

 

Research:

Last rites were held at Bila Hora, Nov. 30 for Mrs. Theresa Woytek, 75. Rev. F. J. Kostonryz officiating.

Native of Oakland, a daughter of Joseph and Theresa Valchar, in 1908 she married Joseph Woytek, who died in 1948. They lived first at Oakland and Weimar, farming then in 1918 they bought a farm near Schulenburg. There they were farming till his death. Since then she lived with Mr. and Mrs. John Fojt where she had her own home.

Survivors include her 99 year old mother, Mrs. Theresa Valchar, six sisters, two brothers and other relatives.

In 1908 when Theresa was 22, she married John VOJTEK. Born in 1887. John died in 1943, he was 56. Buried in Bila Hora Cemetery, Lavaca County, Texas.

                       v.          Vlasta. Born on 30 Sep 1894. Vlasta died in Sep 1974, she was 79.

 

Vlasta married John WOJTEK.

 

                      vi. Antonie. Born in 1898. Antonie died in 1929, she was 31. Buried in Bila Hora Cemetery, Lavaca County, Texas.

 

          7          vii.          Anastasia (1900-1957)

                     viii.          Lydia. Born on 19 Apr 1902. Lydia died in Mar 1977, she was 74.

 

Lydia married Frank ROZNOVAK. Born on 22 Feb 1896. Frank died in Nov 1976, he was 80.

 

                      ix.          Martha. Born on 17 Dec 1904. Martha died on 26 Aug 1988, she was 83.

 

                       x.          Henry. Born on 10 Jul 1909. Henry died on 8 Oct 1996, he was 87.

 

 

The children listed come from the 1900 Colorado Co., Texas Census.

 

3. Amalie COUFAL. Born on 20 Jun 1866 in Cermna, Cechy. Amalie died in Calhoun County, Texas on 19 Mar 1956, she was 89. Buried in Six Mile Cemetery, Calhoun, Texas. Occupation: Homemaker.

 

Memories: Grandma Machac sang songs in Czech to the kids.  Lillian Elder fondly remembers a song about a girl on a bridge.  She and her sister recently sang it as they were remembering the times they has a children.

 

 

 

On 14 Dec 1886 when Amalie was 20, she married Martin MACHAC, in Lavaca County, Texas. Born on 13 Oct 1868 in Johannova, Moravia. Martin died in Calhoun County, Texas on 9 Feb 1932, he was 63. Buried in Six Mile Cemetery, Calhoun, Texas. Immigrated on 15 Aug 1882. Naturalized on 23 Mar 1887 in Lavaca County, Texas. Occupation: Farmer. Hobbies: Fishing.

 

Memories: Lillian Machac Elder fondly remembers her Grandpa Machac always having treats for the  sick kids.  At Christmas, even though they didn't have much, The Machacs  always had something for the grandkids.

 

One Chirstmas, they put little gifts in Walnut shells and glued the halves back

 together.  Lillian remembers getting a ring in hers.

 

 Martin also had two boats:  The Ruby Mae (named after his granddaughter), and Baby Belle.

                      iii. Josef Jaroslav. Born on 4 Feb 1889 in Oakland, Texas. Josef Jaroslav died on 20 May 1946, he was 57. Buried in Six Mile Cemetery, Calhoun, Texas. Christened on 28 Apr 1889 in Wellersberg, Lavaca Co.,Texas. Hobbies: played a violin.

 

Sponsors for Josef's christening were Josef and Theresie Valchar.

 

Memories: Lillian Machac Elder, Joe's niece, remembers him being a wonderful violin player.  She fondly remembers him playing the song Over The Waves.   

 

Josef Jaroslav married Annie KABELA, daughter of KABELA. Born on 4 Nov 1897. Annie died on 20 Dec 1976, she was 79. Buried in Six Mile Cemetery, Calhoun, Texas.

 

Annie was Sophie's sister.

 

        10          iv.          Edward Martin (1891-1962)

                       v.          Sophia. Born in May 1898.

 

Can not find out what happened to Sophia. She may have died.

 

                      vi. Amalie. Amalie was baptized in Sublime, Lavaca , Texas in 1900. Born on 16 Jan 1900. Amalie died on 19 Dec 1979, she was 79. Buried in Six Mile Cemetery, Calhoun, Texas.

 

Memories: All Lillian could say about her Aunt Mollie is that she was something else.  

 

Amalie first married Joe HURTIC.

 

Amalie second married Robert MIKULA.

 

                      vii.          Vlasta (Died as Child). Born on 21 Nov 1909. Vlasta died on 9 Feb 1910.

 

        11         viii.          Theresa/Terezie Alzbeta (1892-1941)

                      ix. John. Born on 28 Mar 1894 in Sublime, Lavaca , Texas. John was baptized in Bila Hora, Lavaca, Texas on 13 May 1894. Served in the military.

 

On John's baptism certificate his name is Jan Antonin.

Immigrated on 20 Jun 1894 to Lavaca County, Texas.  on 29 Oct 1894  Lavaca County, Texas. Naturalized on 28 Nov 1905 in Calhoun County, Texas. Frank Joe died in Port Lavaca, Calhoun, Texas in 1948, he was 77. Buried in Six Mile Cemetery, Calhoun, Texas. Occupation: Farmer. Religion: Presbyterian/Lutheran.

5. Anna Frantiska VALCHAR. Born on 23 Jun 1888 in Wellersberg, Lavaca Co.,Texas. Christened on 16 Sep 1888 in Wellersberg, Lavaca Co.,Texas. Anna Frantiska died in Feb 1982, she was 93.

On 4 Nov 1913 when Anna Frantiska was 25, she married John FOJT, in Lavaca County, Texas.

6. Jaroslaw "Jerry" VALCHAR. Born on 30 Mar 1892. Jaroslaw "Jerry" died in Weimar, Colorado. Texas on 9 Jan 1966, he was 73.

Funeral services were held in Weimar Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 12, for Jerry Joe Valchar, 76. retired farmer who died Sunday about 7 p.m. at Youens Hospital, after a stroke.

 

Valchar a lifelong resident of that area, was first stricken Friday morning at his home in the New Bielau community.

 

Rev. Frank Kostohryz officiated in the services at Hubbard Funeral Home, assisted by.Rev. Frank H. Horak, Jr., of Weimar Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery here. Mr. Valchar was a member of the Czech Moravian Brethren Church in Vsetin.

 

Born March 30, 1892, near Oakland he was a son of Joe and Theresa Coufal Valchar His mother preceded him in death only the past November at the age of 102.

 

He married Miss Annie MalinovskY here on Oct. 2, 1916, and they settled in the Oakland section. Mrs. Valchar died May 5, 1964 and Mr. Valchar moved to the farm of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Ermis. at New Bielau.

 

Surviving are two sons, Jerry E. Valchar of Temple and Johnnie J. Valchar of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three daughters, Mrs. Frank (Ruby) Rokvta of Victoria, Mrs. Andrew (Ollie) Kozlowski of Grand Rapids. Mich. and Ms. Julius (Milady) Ermis of Weimar; 16 grandchildren; one brother, Henry of Oakland; and four sisters, Mrs. John (Annie) Fojt of Weimar, Mrs John (Vlasta) Wojtek, Mrs. Frank (Lydia) Roznovak and Miss Martha Valchar all of Oakland. Six sisters preceded him in death.

7. Anastasia VALCHAR. Born on 25 Apr 1900. Anastasia died on 31 Jan 1957, she was 56. Religion: Brethern.

 

Anastasia was an active member in the Czech Moravian Brethern Church at Vsetin in Lavaca Co.   

 

On 24 Oct 1922 when Anastasia was 22, she married James A. DUSEK.

 

They had one child:

10. Edward Martin MACHAC. Born on 11 Jan 1891 in Oakland, Texas. Christened on 3 May 1891 in Wellersberg, Lavaca Co.,Texas.  on 8 Jun 1891. Edward Martin died on 25 Dec 1962, he was 71. Buried in Six Mile Cemetery, Calhoun, Texas. Occupation: Farmer and a fisherman. Hobbies: Fishing.

 

Edward built the boat  Essay.  He loved to fish.  His daughter, Lillian, said that grandma told her that he never went to school. He was always under a muddy bridge fishing.  

 

Sponsors for Edward's christening were Martin Mucela and wife Anna.

 

Memories: Lillian remembers her father, Edward, built an  ice box for fish.  It was made out of newspaper and wood. The inside was lined with a sort of tin.  He put a block of ice in it.   

 

Edward Martin married Sophie KABELA, daughter of KABELA. Born on 1 Jun 1893 in Sweden, Texas. Sophie died on 26 Mar 1971, she was 77. Buried in Six Mile Cemetery, Calhoun, Texas. Occupation: Homemaker.

 

Sophie's first name is spelled Zofie on her baptism papers.

 

Memories: Sophie and the girls did most of the farming while Ed  was fishing.  -Lillian Elder

Frank and Delphie were killed by a drunk  driver.

 

On 15 Nov 1919 when Frank Joe was 25, he married Delphina HOLY, in Port Lavaca, Calhoun, Texas. Delphina died on 28 Oct 1964 in Port Lavaca, Calhoun, Texas. Buried on 31 Oct 1964 in Six Mile Cemetery, Calhoun, Texas.

13. Anna J. ROKYTA. Born on 13 Feb 1897 in Sublime, Lavaca , Texas. Anna J. died in El Campo, Texas on 10 Feb 1985, she was 87. Buried in El Campo, Texas.

 

On 14 Nov 1923 when Anna J. was 26, she married John VOJTEK, in Port Lavaca, Calhoun, Texas. Born on 12 Nov 1889 in Lavaca County, Texas. John died in El Campo, Texas on 12 Aug 1969, he was 79. Buried in El Campo, Texas.

Joe loved to fish and play music. He played the harmonica and the accordian.  He also smoked a pipe and rolled his own cigarettes.      

 

On 25 Sep 1934 when Joe Martin was 26, he married Lillie Theresa PUSTEJOVSKY, daughter of Josef PUSTEJOVSKY & Veronika MIKULENCAK, in Wiemar, Colorado, Texas. Born on 4 Jan 1907. Lillie Theresa died in Port Lavaca, Calhoun, Texas on 23 May 1992, she was 85. Buried in Six Mile Cemetery, Calhoun, Texas. Occupation: Homemaker. Religion: Presbyterian.

 

Lillie loved to bake and quilt.  She also loved to garden.  She loved spending time with her grandchildren.   She made the best kolaches.  

 

The author remembers Lillie, her grandmother, always giving her Blue Bell chocolate ice cream when her and her brother Brian would come and visit their grandparents.

Brian Rokyta just loved his grandmother's poppyseed  kolaches.  No one could make them like she did.    

 

Lillie also enjoyed her cat Orange.  He was a beautiful bob tailed cat.
