Romani Gypsy Chamomile Candle and Soap

Inspired by legend and tradition, this candle and soap set are both made with the scent of Chamomile. The candle is richly scented and ready to burn in a glass holder. The soap is mixed with real Chamomile, plus Chamomile oil to enhance the scent. These come to you boxed together and ready to give as a gift, along with a card explaining the traditional uses of Chamomile to the Romani people.

You are bidding on a set of one candle and one bar of soap. Both the candle and soap are hand-poured and hand-mixed with respect to the Romani traditions.

Traditionally, Chamomile was (and still is) used by the Romani, or gypsy, people because of its soothing effects. It has been used by them as a remedy for a nervous stomach, insomnia, colic and bladder problems, as well as to relieve inflammation, on cuts and scrapes and for joint pain. It's also commonly used in teas to calm nerves. The Romani are traditionally well versed in herblore, handing down their secrets from one generation to the next.

Some Romani History

Cirikl'ori is Kalderaš-Romani in origin and translates to mean "Little Bird". Kalderaš are one of the most well known Romani groups in terms of numbers of those who speak this version of the Romani language, geographical distribution and the extent of documentation. Kalderaš-Romani is part of the Northern Vlax sub-branch of Roman and shows extensive Romanian influence on vocabulary.

In most clans, the Romani use the same soap for bathing as they do for cleaning clothes. Rather than make individual bars, they make their soap into one large chunk, then break off cakes as they're needed. Soap is never reused, either. The soap that is used to wash men's clothes is discarded and new soap is used to wash the children's clothes. Once those are clean, yet another cake of soap is broken off to clean the women's clothes. The same is done for bathing.
