Welcome to the world of Cheri's Poetry! Enjoy your stay

Hi! I'm Cheri Neuman Herald. I love reading, writing, sharing, and promoting poetry. I am a member of Sunshine Poets in Crystal River, Fl., a non-profit poetry organization dedicated to the writing and promotion of poetry. I am a former editor of the Florida State Poets Association annual anthology. FSPA is a state org. with the same aim, and membership in Sunshine includes membership in the state organization. In turn, FSPA members belong to a national organization: The National Federation of State Poetry Societies (NFSPS). This site contains selected archived poems; for my current writings, visit me at my Xanga Web-Log: http://www.xanga.com/home.asp?user=Cheri_Herald

Clearer Water

Slipping from the last turbid days of summer
into the first
clearing days of fall
I wished upon my fading garden
I'd planted more flowers
tended them better
enjoyed them more,
regretted my lack of zinnias.
Just beyond
I spotted the otters
playing carelessly after the rain in the canal
chasing minnows or each other
with equal zest
oblivious to my flowers and me.
One big old fat one
still sleek as spring
eased onto the dock
spent thirty minutes
instructing me how to
properly crack
and savor
today's crab
bit by succulent bit, lazily
slid deep into clearer water
leaving me blue bits of shell
as a reminder.
I worked them around the blooms
anticipating zinnias.
