MATERIALS: J. & P. COATS' Six CORD MERCER-CROCHET, Size 50:

(BLUE LABEL) 100 balls of White, or 120 of Ecru or of any color, or (GBEEN LABEL) : 34 balls of White or Ecru.

STEEL CROCHET HOOK No. 12

GAUGE: 9 sps make 2 inches; 9 rows make 2 inches.

Completed block measures about 15 inches square. For a tablecloth 75 x 90 inches, make 5 x 6 blocks.

BLOCK . . . Starting at bottom of chart, make a chain about 20 inches long (18 ch sts to 1 inch).

1st row: Tr in 6th ch from hook, (ch 1, skip 1 ch, tr in next ch) 5 times; ch 3, skip 3 ch, tr in next ch (sp made), then (ch 1, skip 1 ch, tr in next ch) 8 times; * make 1 sp, (ch 1, skip 1 ch, tr in next ch) 6 times. Repeat from * 12 more times; then work 1 sp, (ch 1, skip 1 ch, tr in next ch) 8 times; 1 sp, (ch 1, skip 1 ch, tr in next ch) 6 times. Ch 5, turn.

2nd row: Tr in next tr, (ch 1, tr in next tr) 3 times; ch 3, skip 1 tr, tr in next tr (sp made over shadow sp), 3 tr in next sp, tr in next tr (bl made over sp), ch 3, skip 1 tr, tr in next tr, (ch 1, tr in next tr) 4 times; * ch 3, skip 1 tr, tr in next tr, make 1 bl, 1 sp, (ch 1, tr in next tr) twice (shadow sp made over shadow sp). Repeat from * 12 more times; then work 1 sp, 1 bl, 1 sp, (ch 1, tr in next tr) 4 times; 1 sp, 1 bl, 1 sp, (ch 1, tr in next tr) 4 times; 1 sp, 1 bl, 1 sp, (ch 1, tr in next tr) 3 times; ch 1, skip 1 ch, tr in next ch. Ch 5, turn.

3rd row: Tr in next tr, ch 1, tr in next tr, work 1 sp, ch 3, tr in next tr (sp made over sp), tr in next 4 tr (bl made over bl). Work 1 more bl, 2 sps, * 3 bls, 1 sp. Repeat from * 12 more times; then work 3 bls, 2 sps, 2 bls, 2 sps, 1 shadow sp, ch 7, turn.

4th row: Skip 1 tr, tr in next tr (sp made at beginning of row), work 2 bls, ch 3, skip 3 tr, tr in next tr (sp made over bl). Work 1 bl, then work sps across until there are 59 sps in all, then work 1 bl, 1 sp, 2 bls, 1 sp. Ch 5, turn.

5th row: Tr in next sp, ch 1, tr in next tr, then work 1 sp, 5 bls, 55 sps, 5 bls, 1 sp, ch 1, tr in next sp, ch 1, tr in 4th st of turning ch. Ch 5, turn.

6th row: Tr in next tr, ch 1, tr in next tr, ch 1, tr in next sp, ch 1, tr in next tr. Work 2 sps, 3 bls, 10 sps, ch 1, tr in next sp, ch 1, tr in next tr (shadow sp made over sp). Work 8 more shadow sps, 17 sps, 9 shadow sps, 10 sps, 3 bls, 2 sps, 2 shadow sps. Ch 5, turn.

Starting with 7th row, follow chart to top. Fasten off.

Make 5 x 6 blocks and sew together on wrong side with neat over-and-over stitches.
