Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "AUNT LYDIA'S" HEAVY RUG YARN, Article 235

4 skeins Red

1 skein White

1 spool "AUNT LYDIA'S" Carpet and Button Thread

10 inches x 10 inches Red Felt

BODY: Wind 3 skeins of Red over a 12 inch cardboard, tie with a double strand of yarn at one end for top of head. Tie tightly about 3 inches from top of head for neck.

ARMS: Wind 1 skein of Red over a 10 inch cardboard, tie 2 inches from each end for hands, insert through center of body. Tie under arms for waist. Cut and trim ends for hands.

Divide remaining yarn in half for legs and tie each section about 2 inches from each end. Cut and trim ends for feet.

MUSTACHE: Cut 14 - 4 inch lengths of White. Insert threaded needle through center of each length pull together and fasten on wrong side. Comb and trim edges tapering top to about 4 inches. Sew to face.

BEARD: Cut 50 - 5 inch lengths of White. Insert threaded needle through center of each length. Place beard in position and sew to face along center of lengths. Fold upper part of lengths downwards. Comb and trim edges as illustrated.

HAT: Cut felt to form triangle 10 inches wide and 10 inches on each side rounding slightly at lower edge. Sew the 2 straight edges together. Mark dots 1/2 inch apart and 1/2 inch up from lower edge of hat.

TUFTS FOR HAT: Cut 12 - 1 1/2 inch lengths of White.

Insert a needle with "AUNT LYDIA'S" Carpet and Button Thread in one of the dots fastening firmly, place a tuft over the thread and sew center of the to ft to the hat using 2 or 3 stitches. Work 19 more tufts in same manner.

Sew hat in position as illustrated.

Sew buttons in position for eyes and nose or embroider with STAR SIX STRAND MERCERIZED EMBROIDERY COTTON.

POMPONS: Over a 3 inch cardboard wind White 20 times. Tie in center, cut each end and trim. Make 2 more pompons in same manner Sew to point of hat and body as illustrated.

Frosty

Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "AUNT LYDIA'S" HEAVY RUG YARN, Article 235

4 skeins White

1 skein each National Blue and Lt.Yellow and

"STAR" SIX STRAND MERCERIZED EMBROIDERY COTTON, Article 50

3 skeins Lt. Emerald

1 skein each Bright Red, Black and Dk.Orange

1 pipe cleaner

7 ½ inches x 8 ¾, inches Black Felt

Aluminum or plastic crochet hook size H

Steel crochet hook No. 6

With White make body and arms same as for Jolly St. Nick. Tie with White.

Nose: With Red and No. 6 crochet hook chain (ch) 2, 5 single crochet (sc) in 2nd stitch (st) from hook, without joining work 2 sc in each sc.

3rd Round, Decrease 5 stitches (sts) evenly spaced (to decrease: * insert hook in next st, pull loop through, repeat from * once, thread over and work off all loops at one time), cut thread leaving an end. Fill with cotton and sew in position.

Eyes: With Black work 1st 3 rnds same as nose, slip stitch (sl st) in next st, cut thread.

Mouth: With Red ch 15, sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in next st, 1 short double crochet (sdc) in each of the next 2 sts (sdc: thread over hook, insert in st, pull loop through, thread over and pull through all loops at one time), 1 double crochet (dc) in each of the next 2 sts, 1 treble crochet (trc) in each of the next 2 sts, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 sdc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 sc in each of the last 2 sts, cut thread.

Hat: Cut a piece of Black felt 2 1/2 inches x 8  3/4 inches for crown. For brim cut large circle 5 inches in diameter. Cut from center of this circle another circle 3 inches in diameter. First circle is for brim of hat. 2nd circle is for top of crown.

Band: With Green ch 7, sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in each remaining st of ch, ch 1 to turn all rows.

2nd Row. 1 sc in each sc. Repeat 2nd row until band is long enough to go around crown of hat.

Place around crown and sew short ends together.

Trim hat with artificial holly or crochet holly leaves as follows:

With Green ch 3, dc in 3rd st from hook, ch 1, turn.

2nd Row. Sc in 2nd st from hook, sc in next st of ch, 1 dc in next dc, 2 dc in next st, ch 3, turn.

3rd Row. Sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in next st of ch, I dc in each of the next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 3, turn.

4th Row. Sc in 2nd st from hook, 1 sc in next st of ch, 1 dc in each of the next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 3, turn.

5th Row. Sc in 2nd St from hook, 1 sc in next dc, 1 dc in each of the next 5 dc, ch 2, turn.

6th Row. Sc in 2nd St from hook, 1 sc in next dc, 1 dc in each of the next 4 dc ch 2, turn.

7th Row. Sc in 2nd St from hook, sc in next dc, 1 dc in each of the next 3 dc, ch 1, turn.

8th Row. Sl St in each of the next 2 sts, ch 2, then keeping last loop of each of the following sts on hook dc in same place with last sl st, 1 dc in next dc, thread over and work off all loops at one time, cut thread.

Berry: With Red work 1st 2 rounds same as nose.

3rd and 4th Rounds. Work even in sc.

5th Round. 1 sc in next sc, decrease in next 2 sts, repeat from beginning all around. Fill with cotton, then decrease every other st until 3 sts remain, cur thread leaving end. Work 2 more berries. Sew leaves and berries on band as illustrated.

Make 2 pompons for Ear Muffs as follows: Over a 2 inch cardboard wind Blue 40 times, tie in center and trim into shape. With Blue and size H hook crochet a ch 5 inches long, cut yarn. Sew each end of ch to a pompon and sew in position.

Scarf: With Yellow and size H hook, ch 7, dc in 4th st from hook, 1 dc in each remaining st of ch, ch 2 to turn all rows.

2nd Row, 1 dc in each st.

Repeat 2nd row until strip measures 20 inches, cut yarn.

Fringe: Cut a 4 inch length of yarn, double in half, loop through 1st st of one short edge of scarf, draw ends through loop tightly, repeat across row, trim fringe evenly. Work opposite end in same manner.

Buttons: With Black work 1st 2 rounds same as nose ending last rnd with sl st, cut thread. Sew buttons in position.

Pipe: With Dk. Orange work 1st 2 rounds same as nose.

3rd Round, Ch 3, * popcorn st in next st (popcorn st: 4 dc in same space, drop loop from hook, insert in 1st dc, pull loop through, ch 1 to tighten st), 1 dc in next st, repeat from * 4 times, popcorn st in next st, join in 3rd st ch.

4th and 5th Rounds, Ch 3, 1 Popcorn st in each popcorn st and 1 dc in each dc, join each round, cut thread.

Stem: Wind dark orange over a 2 1/2 inch section of a pipe cleaner, fasten ends. Insert one end in pipe and the other in mouth.

Santa, Angel and Jack Frost

Materials Required: AMERICIAN 'THREAD COMPANY "DAWN" KNITTING WORSTED

2 - 1/3 ounce skeins White

1 - 1/3 ounce skein Scarlet

2 yards Amber and

"STAR" SIX STRAND MERCERIZED EMBROIDERY COTTON, Article 50

1 skein each Black, Bright Red, Marine Blue and Dk. Orange

2 1/2 inches x 3 inches Red felt for Santa Claus Cap

2 3/4 inches x 2 3/4 inches Black felt for Jack Frost Hat

SANTA CLAUS

Body: Wind Scarlet over a 4 inch cardboard 58 times, tie with a 12 inch length of yarn at one end for top of head. With white tie securely about 1 inch from top of head for neck.

Arms: Wind Scarlet over a 4-inch cardboard 20 times. With White tie 1/4 inches from each end for hands. Cut and trim ends. Insert arms through center of body and tie below arms for waist. Divide remaining yarn in half for legs. With White tie each section 1/4 inch from each end for feet. Cut and trim ends.

Whiskers: Cut 6 strands of White about 3 inches long, fold in half and fasten at mouth as illustrated. Comb and separate the yarn and trim evenly.

Cap: Cut Red felt to form triangle 2 1/2 inches wide and 1 1/2 inches on each side rounding it slightly at lower edge. Fold in half and overcast 1 edge for side of cap. Sew one strand of White yarn around lower edge.

Tassel: With White cut 3 - 3 inch strands, tie in center, fold in half and tie 1/8 inch from top, attach to top of cap. Tie 1/4 inch from other end, brush out lower end and sew to side of cap as illustrated. Sew cap to top of head pulling loop through top of cap. With Black "STAR" SIX STRAND EMBROIDERY COTTON embroider eyes, nose and mouth as illustrated. If desired brush cap with glue and sprinkle with tiny sequins.

ANGEL: With White make body and arms same as for Santa Claus. Tie top of head and neck with White. Tie arms and waist with Dk. Orange. Do not divide remaining section in half but cut and trim lower edge for skirt.

Hair: Cut 7 - 4-inch strands of Amber. Sew to top of head and tie at each end with Dk. Orange.

Halo: With Dk. Orange chain (ch) 22, 1 single crochet (sc) in 2nd stitch (st) from hook, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts of ch, 1 short double crochet (sdc) in each of the next 13 sts of ch (sdc: thread over hook, insert in st, pull loop through, thread over and work off all loops at one time), 1 sc in each remaining st of ch, join, cut thread. Embroider eyes in Blue, eyelashes and nose in Black and mouth in Red. Sew Halo to head. If desired brush dress and sleeves with glue and sprinkle with tiny sequins.

JACK FROST: With White make body and arms same as body for Santa Claus. Tie top of head, neck, arms, waist and feet with White. With Black embroider eyes, nose, mouth and buttons as illustrated.

Hat: Same as hat for Frosty (large snow man), but cutting black felt for crown 7/8 inch x 2 3/8 inches. Large circle should be 1 3/4 inches in diameter and small circle 3/4 inch in diameter.

Overcast short straight edge of crown together. Overcast small circle to one end of crown. Overcast large circle to other end of crown for brim. Draw yarn at top of head through center of hat.
