MATERIALS:

J. & P. COATS or CLARK'S O.N.T. BEST SIX CORD MERCERIZED CROCHET

(Small Ball), Size 30, 1 ball of White or Ecru for set of four.

Steel Crochet Hook No. 10 or 11.

Each doily measures 4 1/2 inches across center (from point to point).

Starting at center, ch 10. Join with sl st to form ring.

1st rnd: * Sc in ring, ch 5. Repeat from * 7 more times; sc in ring, ch 2, dc in 1st sc made.

2nd rnd: * Ch 5, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around, ending with ch- 2, dc in dc.

3rd rnd: * Ch 5, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 5, sl st in dc.

4th rnd: In each loop around make sc, h dc, 3 dc, h dc and sc (9 petals are made).

5th rnd: Sl st in next 4 sts, ch 3, 2 dc in same place as last sl st, * ch 7, drop loop from hook, insert hook in 5th ch from hook and draw dropped loop through, forming a p facing center ring (this will be referred to as an inverted p), ch 2, 3 dc in center dc of next petal. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st to 3rd st of ch-3.

6th rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, * dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 2; sl st in base of inverted p, ch 5, sl st in same place (p is made), ch 2, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join.

7th rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, * dc in each dc to within last dc of this group, 2 dc in next dc, ch 2, make an inverted p, ch 2, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join.

8th rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, * dc in each dc to within last dc of this group, 2 dc in next dc, ch 2, make a p in base of inverted p, ch 2, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join.

9th and 10th rnds: Same as 7th and 8th rnds (13 dc in each group on 10th rnd).

11th rnd: Ch 3, * dc in next 5 dc, 3 dc in next dc, dc in next 6 dc, ch 3, dc in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join.

12th rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, * dc in next 3 dc; ch 4, sc in last dc made (p is made), dc in next 4 dc, p, dc in same place as last dc, dc in next 3 dc, make a p, dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc, sc in ch-3 sp, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join and fasten off. This completes 1 doily. Make 3 more doilies same as this.
