Place Mat measures about 11x16 inches

COATS & ClARK'S O.N.T. "SPEED-CRO- SHEEN" MERCERIZED COTTON:

3 balls each of No. 48 Hunter's Green and No. 49 Chartreuse Green (for set of 2 Mats)

Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 1/0 (zero).

FIRST STRIP . . . With Chartreuse Green, ch 98 (9 ch sts to 1 inch).

1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, * skip next 3 ch, in next ch make dc, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1 and dc - scallop made; skip next 3 ch, sc in next ch. Repeat from * across.

2nd row: Working along opposite side of starting chain, skip the ch used for last sc on first row, then work as for first row starting at *. Sl st in first sc of first row. Break off and fasten.

SECOND STRIP . . . With Hunter's Green work as for First Strip until the first row has been completed.

2nd row: Working along opposite side of starting chain, skip the ch used for last sc on first row; now join two Strips as follows: * Skip next 3 ch, dc in next ch; holding strips with wrong sides together, sl st in first ch-1 sp of next scallop on First Strip, make 3 dc in same place as last dc was made on Second Strip, sl st in next ch-1 sp of same scallop on First Strip, dc in same place as last 3 dc were made on Second Strip, skip next 3 ch on Second Strip, sc in next ch. Repeat from * across. Sl st in first sc of first row. Break off and fasten.

Make 15 more strips, alternating the colors, and joining them as Second Strip was joined to First Strip. Press through a damp cloth.
