Doily measures 20 inches in diameter, including ruffle.

Starting at center, ch 10. Join with sl st to form a ring.

1st rnd: Ch 3, holding back on hook the last loop of each dc make 3 dc in ring, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (cluster); (ch 3, 4 dc cluster in ring) 7 times; ch 3, sl st in tip of first cluster.

2nd rnd: Ch 3, 2 dc in same place as sl st, ch 3, 3 dc in same place (shell); * ch 3, 3 dc in tip of next cluster, ch 3, in tip of next cluster make 3 dc, ch 3 and 3 dc. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-3 with sl st to top of ch-3.

3rd rnd: Sl st in each st and in sp of shell, ch 3, 12 dc in same sp (start of pineapple), * ch 1, in center dc of 3-dc group make dc, ch 3 and dc (V st), ch 1, 13 dc in center of next shell. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-1 to top of ch-3.

4th rnd: Ch 4, (dc in next dc, ch 1) 11 times, dc in next dc; * ch 1, 3 dc in center ch of V st, (ch 1, dc in next dc of pineapple) 13 times. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-1 to 3rd ch of ch-4.

5th rnd: Sl st in ch-1 sp, sc in same sp, * (ch 3, sc in next sp) 11 times; ch 2, 3 dc in first dc of 3-dc group, ch 3, skip 1 dc, 3 dc in next dc, ch 2, sc in ch-1 sp of pineapple. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2.

6th rnd: * (Sc in next ch-3 loop of pineapple, ch 3) 10 times, sc in next loop; ch 2, 3 dc in first dc of next 3-dc group, ch 2, 3 dc in next sp, ch 2, 3 dc in last dc of next dc-group, ch 2. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2.

7th rnd: * (Sc in next ch-3 loop of pineapple, ch 3) 9 times; sc in next loop; ch 2, 3 dc in first dc of next dc-group, (ch 2, 3 dc in next sp) twice; ch 2, 3 dc in last dc of next dc-group, ch 2. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2.

8th to 15th rnds incl: Work as for 7th rnd, having 1 loop less on each pineapple on each rnd and 1 dc-group more between pineapples on each rnd-1 loop remains on each pineapple on the 15th rnd and there are 12 dc-groups between pineapples. Join last ch-2 to first sc.

16th rnd: Sl st to center of ch-3 loop on pineapple, sc in same loop, * ch 2, 3 dc in first dc of dc-group, (ch 2, 3 dc in next sp) 11 times; ch 2, 3 dc in last dc of next dc-group, ch 2, sc in- loop of pineapple. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-2 to first sc.

17th rnd: Sl st in each st and in first dc of dc-group, ch 3, 2 dc in same place as last sl st, * (ch 2, 3 dc in next sp) 12 times; ch 2, 3 dc in last dc of next dc-group, ch 2, 3 dc in first dc of next 3-dc group. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-2 to top of ch-3.

18th rnd: Sl st in next 2 dc and in next sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, * ch 2, 3 dc in next sp. Repeat from * around. Join.

19th to 27th rnds incl: Work as for 18th rnd, making ch-3 sps on 19th rnd; ch-4 sps on 20th rnd; ch-5 sps on 21st to 25th rnds and ch-6 sps on the 26th and 27th rnds. Join.

RUFFLE ... 1st rnd: Sl st in next 2 dc and in next sp, * in same sp make (sc, ch 7) 4 times and sc; ch 7, sc in next sp. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 3, tr in first sc.

2nd to 12th rnds incl: Sc in loop just formed, * ch 7, sc in next loop. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 3, tr in first sc. Break off at end of 12th rnd. Starch lightly and press.
