The geometric pattern of this filet cloth has a lovely rhythmic flow that accents its symmetry.

MATERIALS

J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, 31 balls of White or

Ecru, or 38 balls of any color.

CLARK'S O.N.T. LUSTERSHEEN, 24 skeins of White or Ecru, or 31 skeins of any color.

MILWARD'S Steel Crochet Hook No. 7.

GAUGE ... 3 sps make 1 1/4 inches; 3 rows make 1 1/4 inches. Each block measures about 23 1/2 inches square after blocking. Completed tablecloth measures about 73 x 97 inches.

BLOCK . . . Starting at center, ch 11, tr in 11th ch from hook. Now work in rnds as follows:

1st rnd; Ch 4, 3 tr over bar of last tr, tr in same ch where first tr of ring was made, ch 7, tr in same place as last tr, 3 tr in ring, tr in 4th ch of ring, ch 7, tr in same place as last tr, 3 tr in ring (under next 3 ch of ring). Tr in next ch, ch 7, tr in same place as last tr, 3 tr in ring, tr in 1st tr made at base of ch-4. Ch 7, sl st in 4th ch of ch-4 first made.

2nd rnd: Ch 7, * skip 3 tr, tr in next tr, 3 tr in corner sp. In 4th ch of corner ch-7 make tr, ch 7 and tr; 3 tr in same corner sp, tr in next tr, ch 3. Repeat from * around, ending with 3 tr in corner sp, sl st in 4th ch of ch-7. 3rd rnd: Ch 7, * tr in next 5 tr, 3 tr in corner sp. In 4th st of corner ch-7 make tr, ch 7 and tr; 3 tr in same corner sp, tr in next 5 tr, ch 3. Repeat from * around; join.

4th rnd: Ch 7, * tr in next 9 tr (2 bis made); 3 tr in corner sp. In 4th st of corner ch-7 make tr, ch 7 and tr; 3 tr in same corner sp; tr in next 9 tr, ch 3. Repeat from * around; join.

Starting at 5th rnd (indicated by "X" on chart), follow chart until block is completed. Fasten off.

Make 3x4 blocks, and sew them together on wrong side with neat over-and-over stitches.

EDGING ... 1st rnd: Attach thread to a tr, ch 4, and work tr in each tr; in the sps make 2 tr and 3 tr, alternately. Work corners same as corners of last rnd of block. Join with sl st.

2nd and 3rd rnds: Ch 4, tr in each tr around, making corners as for 1st rnd. Fasten off. Block cloth to measurements given.
